The Division of Anatomic Pathology of Shadyside Hospital, a major academic hospital component of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking an outstanding candidate for the position in Genitourinary Pathology Center of Excellence (COE). The successful candidate will be Board Certified in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with specialty training and academic interest in Genitourinary Pathology. The candidate must have a valid Pennsylvania medical license (or qualifications to obtain one at the time of appointment) and must be able to work in the United States. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience.

This position is based at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, which provides diagnostic support to the Hillman Cancer Center. The Department of Pathology processes over 3000 GU specimens per year; consisting of biopsies and resections. The GU Pathology COE is extensively involved in Digital Pathology initiatives, including clinical use of AI algorithms as well as partnering with industry for the validation of new algorithms. The successful candidate can also participate in other subspecialty surgical pathology, based on their subspecialty expertise and interest.
UPMC Shadyside Hospital is an attractive state-of-the-art facility with collegial faculty and dynamic staff involved in providing superior clinical service as well as dedicated to training residents and one ACGME-accredited GU Pathology fellow. The GU Pathology group, working closely with Urological Surgery and Oncology, and the Hillman Cancer Center, has ongoing molecular and proteomic projects focused on profiling bladder, kidney, and prostate cancers aimed at identifying diagnostic, therapeutic, and prognostic markers. Candidates would have extensive oversight and involvement in translational pathology utilizing the shared resources of our Imaging and Digital Pathology Laboratories, Molecular Anatomic Pathology, and FISH laboratories. Individuals would be provided with an appropriate start-up package with guaranteed protected time.
A record of and commitment to scholarly activities and publications is essential. The Department provides state-of-the-art research resources in Digital pathology, Immunohistochemistry, FISH, Molecular Pathology, and Next-Gen sequencing. The applicant should preferably be a US citizen or permanent resident.
