Faculty Position in Neuroscience (Open rank)

The Department of Neuroscience and the Ernest J. Del Monte Institute for Neuromedicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry invite applicants for a tenure-track faculty position with open rank (Assistant, Associate or Full Professor). 

We seek candidates who utilize modern experimental approaches to address fundamental questions in neuroscience and/or neurological and psychiatric disorders. We welcome applications across a broad range of cellular and systems neuroscience with no restrictions on experimental system.  Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to: sensory integration, perceptual processing, cognitive control, neurodevelopment, stem cells, synaptic plasticity, neurodegeneration, data science applications in neuroscience, neurorestoration, neuroengineering, and network-level approaches to neural circuits.

Superb opportunities exist for collaborative research with existing Neuroscience departmental faculty in cell signaling and communications; learning and memory, adaptive plasticity; neurobiology of disease, neurodevelopment and aging; and sensory, motor, and integrative systems neuroscience.  Affiliate centers for collaborative research also include the Center for Neural Development and Disease, the Rochester Center for Brain Imaging, the Center for Visual Science, the Center for Medical Technology and Innovation, the Center for Translational Neuromedicine, the University of Rochester Neurorestoration Institute, the Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Institute, the Center for Human Experimental Therapeutics, the Institute for Data Science, the Neuromuscular Disease Center, the Rochester Aging Research Center, the Wilmot Cancer Institute, the Rochester Center for Biomedical Ultrasound, and the Institute of Optics. Thus, the University of Rochester offers an exceptionally rich environment for translational research, and both clinical and basic science collaboration across multiple disciplines.

The successful candidate will be expected to direct an independent research program that will attract extramural funding and provide research training for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. They will also be expected to engage in teaching at the graduate level. Departmental faculty are members of the interdepartmental Neuroscience Graduate Program which, along with other neuroscience-related activities, brings together a broad community of neuroscientists in affiliated departments, including Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Genetics, Brain and Cognitive Sciences, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, and Pharmacology & Physiology.
