About the Opportunity


Under the supervision of the Suburban Campus Trades Manager, the Facilities Coordinator 1 will work alongside the Facilities Coordinator 2, trades operations staff, and temporary resources to perform necessary maintenance for the upkeep and safety of the Burlington, Nahant, and Dedham Campuses. The Facilities Coordinator 1 prepares and maintains a user friendly and safe building environment for faculty, staff, students, and visitors by: 


  • Inspecting the general condition and cleanliness of Suburban Campus buildings; performing minor repairs as needed and reporting larger repairs to the Suburban Campus Trades Manager.  Cleaning doors and glass daily. 

  • Checking interior and exterior lighting fixtures and replace lamps as needed.   

  • Ensuring classroom are clean, seating capacities are maintained, and classroom supplies are stocked.   

  • Maintaining log of daily work orders and inspections.    

  • Working as part of a team on set ups and special requirements of building occupants.  

  • Maintaining grounds/landscape by sweeping, cleaning up litter, emptying exterior trash containers, mowing grass, raking leaves, pruning, planting, mulching and all general lawn and plant upkeep. 

  • Working alongside contracted snow removal vendor to remove snow and ice by shoveling, sanding, or applying ice melt as necessary.  
     


The Facilities Coordinator 1 will be required to work in an overtime capacity and respond to emergency call-ins as required or directed to ensure proper operations.
The Facilities Coordinator I is considered Essential Personnel; this is a condition of employment.
 This position is a permanent member of the snow removal team; duties include being on call on a 24-hour basis during the winter months as well as shoveling show and applying deicer, etc.   


 


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE  


Suitable candidates will have a high school diploma or GED credentials and relevant work experience in the general maintenance of buildings and grounds.   


 


LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS  


  • Must possess and maintain a valid United States State of Residence driver's license.  

  • Must possess and maintain a clean driving record. 

  • Must have a current DOT Examiner’s Certificate.   

  • Must possess (or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire) a Massachusetts 2A Hoisting License 

  • Must possess (or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire) a Massachusetts 1C Hoisting License. 


 


 


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS  


  • Must be a self-starter who takes direction and follows through on tasks. 

  • Ability to prioritize and successfully manage multiple work assignments. 

  • Must be willing to work as part of a team. 

  • Must be able to communicate clearly in the written and spoken word. 

  • Must have the ability to effectively interact with people. 

  • Must be able to perform manual labor, including frequent lifting/carrying/transporting  
    loads up to 50 lbs.  

  • Must be able to transport items/equipment more than 200 lbs. with others.  
    May use chain falls and come-alongs for heavier lifting.  

  • Must be able to push and pull heavy loads as required.  

  • Must be able to stoop and bend for long periods of time; work on hands and knees and other awkward positions for extended periods; routinely walk to and from various buildings carrying tools, equipment, and other essentials to the job site. 

  • Must be able to work alone and climb multiple sets of stairs, work off ladders, staging, lifts, etc. 

  • This position has a 40-hour work week; must be able to work overtime as needed. 

  • Must be able to respond to emergency calls beyond the normal workday. 

  • This position requires a criminal background check. 

  • All University staff members must successfully complete a 90-day probationary period.
