Position SummaryThe School of Architecture and Planning is seeking applications for Fab Lab Assistants.
Under the direct supervision and mentorship of the Fabrication Lab Coordinator, Fab Lab Assistants will be involved a wide range of projects with varying levels of complexity. The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: assisting lab users by providing guidance and support for their production needs; performing various lab and equipment maintenance tasks, assisting with construction/fabrication projects, performing building maintenance duties in Pearl Hall, and monitoring for the safety of all Fab Lab users.
Additional responsibilities will include the ability to move and lift objects up to 30lbs, operating analog tools and equipment in the woodshop and metal shop, as well as digital fabrication equipment such as laser cutters, CNC routers, CNC plasma cutters, and associated software/programs. All applicants must have the capacity to maintain a safe and professional attitude. The successful candidate will be required to complete all required safety and equipment trainings.

1. Graduate or Undergraduate student status in a degree granting program in the School of Architecture & Planning, College of Fine Art, College of Engineering, or other degree granting program at UNM.
2. Experience with analog fabrication processes including woodworking, metalworking, and model building as we;; as experience with digital fabrication processes, equipment, and software.
3. Demonstration of familiarity and knowledge in Rhino and the Adobe Creative Suite.
4. Ability and willingness to learn new programs, tools, equipment and apply them to the job.
5. Ability to work evening and weekend shifts in the Fab Lab, including Monday-Thursday 9am-9pm, Friday 9am-3pm, and weekends 10am-5pm.
