Extension Educator – Vector-borne Disease


Department:
Veterinary Medicine | Veterinary Preventive Medicine

The individual will be responsible for actively working with a project team to formulate learning objectives, develop educational events and materials to support these objectives, and participate in evaluations to measure the team’s educational impact in the area of vector-borne disease. The Extension Educator identifies, develops, delivers, manages and evaluates a portfolio of educational programs or initiatives from conception to evaluation, which may have to meet requirements for professional accreditation; provides leadership, consultation, program coordination, technical assistance and related services in the field of education/training; functions as expert in an area of specialization, evaluates and prepares recommendations for ongoing and proposed programs; develops and maintains relationships with academic units, organizations, industry and agencies to determine programming needs; plans and/or coordinates marketing materials for educational programs and services; prepares and submits various reports; and develops, monitors and manages budgets.

Essential Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in biological, environmental, health, or entomological sciences, plus 4 years’ experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Demonstrated knowledge, training, and experience relevant to vector-borne disease. Effective knowledge in vector biology, management, and control, grant writing, budget management, etc. Strong oral and written communication skills, technological aptitude, the ability to teach, train, and inspire a variety of youth, adults, government officials, and stakeholders within the community. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with team members and share in responsibility of program planning, implementation, evaluation and reporting; and creatively work within a team environment, as well as independently.

Desired Qualifications

Master’s degree in an area relevant to vector-borne disease, preferred. Training/experience in vector biology, management, and control. Experience with community outreach teaching.


Additional Information:

This is a term position for up to 3 years, with possibility of renewal.

The targeted hiring range for this position is $49,800- $66,400 annually, commensurate with education and experience.
