Position Responsibilities


Position Summary
University of Idaho Extension, Northern District, is seeking applicants for an Assistant or Associate professor for a fiscal year, tenure track or tenured Extension Educator. The Educator will provide overall leadership, applied research and organization for educational programs in production agriculture, small farm production, urban horticulture and 4-H youth development in Boundary County. This position will also provide agronomic, small farms and horticulture educational programming in the other counties of Northern Idaho as needed. The Educator will aid in university outreach where appropriate. They will plan, develop, implement, evaluate, and report (1.) agronomic, (2.) small farms and (3.) horticulture educational programming for stakeholders and clientele. In addition, the Educator will (4.) provide county and multi-county support for 4-H Youth Development programs (in total 90%). The Educator will publish in high-quality refereed journals, peer-reviewed Extension publications, and will present at professional conferences, and submit proposals and secure funding to support this scholarly and creative work (5%). The Educator will serve on district, college, and university-wide committees and in other community leadership roles and with professional organizations, and will build/maintain positive relationships with stakeholders (5%). Rank and tenure are negotiable based on how the candidate meets the criteria outlined in department and college bylaws.

Qualifications


Minimum Education/Degree Required Listed degree qualification is required at time of application.
Required Qualifications
  • An earned Master of Science Degree from an accredited institution in an agricultural area that may include, Agronomy, Crop Science, Horticulture, Agriculture Education, Extension Education, or other Agricultural Science degree.
  • Experience providing organizational structure and support for a variety of individuals and groups.
  • Experience adapting research materials into oral and written presentations.
  • Experience with teaching, problem solving, communication, conflict management, relationship building and leadership development.
  • Experience collaborating in teams and working with others.
  • Experience using computer technology to market programs and communicate with stakeholders and clientele.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in Extension as an Educator.
  • Demonstrated ability to design innovative and effective educational programs in response to local needs; implement programs and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Leadership and work experience in crop production, small farm production and horticulture.
  • Experience in grant application and administration.
  • Experience working in youth development programs.
  • Experience with a commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion with program audiences.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Lift, carry and/or otherwise move 50 lbs.
  • Willing and able to travel and adjust to a flexible schedule (i.e., Participate in evening and weekend programs).
