Job Summary

The Experiential Education Coordinator position plays a critical role by analyzing and supporting innovative teaching and learning activities throughout the experiential curriculum. This position reports to the OEIS Director and, as part of the Office of Education and Instructional Services (OEIS), works collaboratively with over 50 faculty and 400 students to evaluate and support teaching and learning.  The individual participates in a wide range of educational initiatives and activities related to the Experiential PharmD curriculum, serving as the primary liaison to external and internal campus offices including the Office of Student and Curricular Affairs, Learning Technologies Group, Kanbar Center, and Schools of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing.

The Experiential Programs are an essential part of the PharmD degree program and include Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs). Under the guidance of the Experiential Education Administrator, OEIS Director, Associate Dean of Experiential Education and Professional Development and Assistant Director of Experiential Education, the Experiential Education Coordinator will independently coordinate IPPE programs, in which students gain experience in a variety of Community, Concentrated and Longitudinal Health Systems practice settings.

The Experiential Education Coordinator will also support the various experiential educational initiatives along with activities related to the didactic PharmD curriculum. The individual is responsible for collecting and presenting data from experiential programs and will have full authority to make independent decisions in shaping these communications. He/she will research educational systems and active-learning strategies and present recommendations to the EEA and Associate Dean, as well as the faculty directors of experiential education. The individual is responsible for creating and managing online and print resources for experiential activities, working with Associate Dean and faculty leads to ensure that resources are available to students and for implementing guidelines and policies determined by the University and the School’s Educational Policy Committee. The individual will also work on annual Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives, which may include reports on experiential education, and best practices for streamlining the experiential education program as part of the PharmD curriculum in School of Pharmacy at UCSF.

The Office of Education & Instructional Services (OEIS) is the centralized administrative group in the School of Pharmacy (SOP) Dean’s Office that provides a broad scope of education, technology and systems, data, and design, services. Working closely with SOP faculty, Leadership, Med Center and campus partners, OEIS consists of several subunits that manage education services for the 1) PharmD Curriculum,. The teams in OEIS design, conduct, promote, evaluate, and support pharmacy education programs in compliance with organizational objectives and nationally accepted accreditation standards and requirements. The OEIS teams support learners in areas such as curriculum, teaching and learning activities, scheduling, core competencies, assessment and evaluations, and student technology support coordination. OEIS provides technology analysis, solutions, innovation and oversight of all systems in the pharmacy educational technology ecosystem. The team is responsible for managing many disparate sources of educational data, providing systems support, and offering training for learners, staff and faculty. OEIS determines technology approaches, selects technology platforms, vendors and partners, and oversees technology education projects. The OEIS team coordinates all activities associated with ongoing administration of pharmacy education programs.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, public health administration or related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience
  • Investigative, data analysis, and reporting skills. Ability to generate computer reports, checking for errors, correcting and submitting accurate reports. Skills include entering, maintaining, extracting, and analyzing data in electronic systems.
  • Basic knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Acquiring skills in developing and implementing processes and systems.
  • Communication skills; includes verbal, written and active listening. Service oriented and responsive to questions and requests. Ability to interact in a professional, resourceful, and courteous manner.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to develop working relationships within department and with learners.
  • Excellent organizational skills, analytical, and demonstrated attention to detail. Ability to work with extremely complex faculty calendars / schedules requires extremely well organized and detail-oriented precision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of relevant policies and regulatory requirements. Basic knowledge of health professions education industry
  • Familiarity with the administrative and operational implications in a program
  • Knowledge of educational technology and systems. Ability to troubleshoot and triages related technology issues.
