Position Summary:

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Expanded Duty Dental Assistant for Rutgers Health University Dental Associates (RHUDA) within Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM). Under general supervision of Faculty, the Expanded Duty Dental Assistant performs chair-side, desk-side and sterilization assistance for RHUDA providers. Assists providers during various examinations and treatment of patients and dispenses dental materials and instruments. Performs other clerical, sterilizing and miscellaneous tasks properly aligned with the functions of a Registered Dental Assistant.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Seats patients, adjust chairs, drapes patients with protective covers, communicates patient concerns with staff nurse and/or treating provider.
• Assists providers chair-side during standard and complex procedures.
• Anticipates the providers needs during procedures; hands instruments to provider during examinations and treatment of patients.
• Manages post-operative patient care.
• Monitors anesthesia patients in recovery, when necessary.
• Serves as sterilization assistant; cleans and sterilizes room after each use and prepares treatment room based on scheduled procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Satisfactory completion of a formal dental assisting program in an ADA approved program.
• A minimum of two (2) years of prior dental assistant experience.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• Must be able to lift patients, heavy boxes weighing up to forty ( 40) pounds, instrument sets weighing up to twenty (20) pounds; must be able to lift surgical supplies above the head.
• Clinic and office operations with moderate noise.
