Department Purpose The UC Noyce Initiative is a first-of-its-kind collaborative that harnesses the strengths and synergies of the research at five University of California campuses: UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC San Francisco, and UC Santa Barbara. With the UC research mission as our cornerstone, the UC Noyce Initiative creates new opportunities for researchers to work across campuses and disciplines to advance digital innovation in data science, technology and innovation, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), computational health and life sciences, quantum computing and the social, policy, and legal implications of these technologies. The UC Noyce Initiative seeks to accelerate scientific discovery and technology in digital innovation by creating a community and providing funds to researchers and research teams who are pursuing innovative projects in the aforementioned research areas through a competitive process. This multi-disciplinary effort harnesses the expertise of five UC campuses to support collaborative research focused on solving problems in the digital innovation space. Job Summary The Executive Director (ED) is a confidential management position reporting into the Vice-Chancellor-Research. This position will act as primary liaison with the Noyce Trust, provide critical cross-campus coordination and implementation actions to facilitate cross-campus collaborations, provide operational leadership, and unify and streamline efforts across the UC Noyce Initiative. Serves as the key administrative officer, responsible for providing broad oversight and management of all aspects of program development, finance, event and outreach, and technology services associated with the Noyce Initiative. Develops, modifies, and executes initiatives/ policies which affect immediate operation(s). Lead and/or support general management activities, including long-and short-range strategic planning activities that enhance and sustain the initiative. Provides counsel and principal management support to program leadership from the five campuses for these functions. This position is a 2 to 3-year contract with possibility of extension or conversion to career depending on funding.
