Occupational Summary

The Executive Director of Enrollment Management serves as a member of the Divinity School senior administration. The EDEM is responsible for providing leadership and supervision for marketing, programmatic, training and student-service related functions to recruit and enroll the most qualified students in line with the mission of the Divinity School. The primary focal areas include enrollment marketing and communications, screening and selection of student applicants, financial aid strategy and management, student retention, and team development and supervision.

Work Performed

Design and lead an engagement process that attracts diverse and high caliber students to Duke and seamlessly manages engagement with students through their inquiry, admission, financial aid, and enrollment. Ensure an effective recruitment, admissions, and financial aid team performs at its highest level and assists that team in developing and executing an annual plan to ensure enrollment targets are met.

Work closely with Divinity School senior leaders and faculty to develop and execute enrollment strategy in accordance with annual goals. Oversee the implementation of new strategies, annually evaluating for effectiveness.

Oversee marketing, communications, and public relations strategy related to recruitment and admission, developing appropriate materials and activities in conversation with Divinity Communications personnel to ensure effective representation of the Divinity School with its varied constituencies.

Manage and oversee Slate CRM implementation for the Divinity School, including lead management, communications functions, and database and application management.

Propose and execute an annual budget ensuring detailed accounting consistent with School and University policies and procedures.

Provide direction and coordination for activities involved with the recruitment, screening, and selection of applications to the Divinity School each year. Oversee the admission process from the onset of the application through the final decision process. 

Request, review, and approve written and verbal reports as needed to include statistical analysis of current status and assessment of enrollment strategy, including marketing and communications functions. Provide variance analyses when targets are exceeded or not met, and suggest new strategies based on data analysis.

Implement a calendar that guides the work of the office including dates related to critical work and allows staff to work across teams and provide back-up support.

Manage and direct admissions and financial aid personnel. Determine staffing requirements for the office, managing hires and terminations. With consultation from General Administration & Finance, determine merit recommendations, performance assessments and evaluations, promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions and vacation schedules.

Ensure sufficient cross-training is provided such that a system of back-up is in place among the staff, to support continuous operations and high-quality service to students, faculty and other constituencies.

Design and evaluate work processes, and electronic and paper records, information systems and data bases.

Consult on marketing strategies of other programs targeting working professionals and continuing/executive education opportunities.

Demonstrate advanced understanding of University systems, procedures and policies in these many domains.

Oversee compliance with all federal, state, University and accreditation regulations as they apply to all aspects of the office.

Ensure and guarantee privacy, confidentiality with particularly sensitive, controversial, and personal data.

Periodic travel to represent the School may be required.

Departmental Preferences

Graduate theological training preferred.

Experience in higher education administration with responsibility for a wide range of process, project, policy, budgetary and supervisory responsibilities within an organization required.

Demonstrated experience in recruitment and enrollment management using Slate by Technolutions.
