Position Summary
Responsible for strategic positioning and tactical marketing of the clinical practice of Washington University School of Medicine, a group of 1,800+ medical specialists. Audiences include referring physicians, patients and prospective patients, internal audiences of the school of medicine and marketing and management personnel of the affiliated and associated hospitals. As a member of the senior management group, is expected to utilize professional strengths to promote the goals and objectives of the Faculty Practice Plan.


Job Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages a team of marketing coordinators and writers to develop and execute marketing plans and advertisements for selected clinical programs, divisions and practice sites.
  • Represents the objectives of the Faculty Practice Plan and the brand at/for intra- and inter-facility programs and initiatives.
  • Develops, manages, and grows the WU Physicians website .
  • Develops and promotes medical communications and service directories to faculty, referring, and other community physicians.
  • Promotes selected clinical services to patients via electronic and traditional media.
  • Attends, on a regular basis, meetings of the Faculty Practice Plan administrative staff to effectively and expeditiously execute the communications priorities established by the CEO.
  • Integrates internal communications related to the Faculty Practice Plan with existing internal and external communications programs under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Medical Public Affairs.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of experience in public relations and communications.
  • Technical ability (medical writing and web entry) to communicate effectively in a medical environment.
  • Supervisory skills to motivate and manage creative team.
  • An aptitude for working through consensus; ability to prioritize, set and reach goals, balance and manage multiple concurrent projects; ability to plan, organize and administer programs effectively.
  • Ability to prepare budgets and maintain accurate expenditures.
  • Creativity and flexibility that facilitate success in an environment where critical thinking, teamwork and persuasion are highly prized.
  • Understanding of and commitment to academic medicine in general and to Washington University in particular.


Required Qualifications

Bachelorâ™s degree, preferably a Masterâ™s degree, in business administration, health administration, journalism, marketing, communications, or any other field that provides academic preparation for developing and executing communications strategies in a health care environment; a minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in a medical or university/college environment required.

Salary Range
$94,100.00 - $165,600.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
