Unit Mission Statement | The Office of Government and External Affairs manages W&M’s federal, state, and local government relations, community engagement, economic development collaborations, and other private sector partnerships and assists university leadership in the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of the university’s strategy, legislative priorities, and economic development initiatives. This office is central to building collaborative partnerships with government, business, and other universities that strengthen our academic programs and provide resources to serve the university’s mission of teaching, research, and public service. |
Position Summary | Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Government and External Affairs, the Executive Assistant provides executive level support to the Office of Government and External Affairs, and as required to the President’s Chief of Staff. This position will partner with the Chief of Staff to anticipate the needs of the President and Office of Government and External Affairs to accomplish strategic initiatives. Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to: managing schedules, managing the daily operations of the office, working closely with internal and external constituents, and preparing meeting and event materials as required. This is a demanding position that requires a high level of professionalism, competence, judgment, and attention to detail. |

Required Qualifications | · Bachelor’s degree or comparable education and experience · Demonstrated mastery of schedule management · Experience providing administrative support to a senior executive · Exceptional judgement and discretion · Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally · Self-driven and comfortable working independently with limited oversight |
Preferred Qualifications | · Prior administrative experience at an institution of higher education or in government relations · Proficient with public body purchasing processes · Experienced with budget management and tracking · The ability to manage competing demands from various constituencies · Knowledge of William & Mary mission, vision, business and administrative practices preferred. |
