Job Description Summary:
The Division of Safety and Facilities aims to provide a safe and secure campus environment for all members of the university community through best-in-class technological and physical infrastructure, proactive assessment and analysis, and a caring team of professionals dedicated to upholding the university’s values with the highest level of care.
Facilities, Planning, Construction, and Management, a department in GW’s Division of Safety and Facilities manages and maintains GW’s property and grounds on all three of GW’s campuses. Our maintenance team includes electricians, carpenters, painters, HVAC technicians, locksmiths, and plumbers. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Building Services, the Evening Supervisor, Facilities Operations leads facilities maintenance operations as a member of the Facilities leadership team at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus.
The Evening Supervisor, Facilities Operations will work a flexible, on-call and/or weekend/holiday schedule, as needed. The Supervisor directs the assignment, coordination, and the completion of maintenance activities within the Foggy Bottom Campus.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Responsible for sustaining maintenance operations for the academic and residential properties at GW’s Foggy Bottom campus. Guides the execution of shared services functions for the Division of Safety and Facilities. Provides instructions and assistance in the solution of work related problems and in the performance of specific tasks. Implements and enforces safety procedures and standards for staff.
  • Leads the day-to-day activities for the general maintenance team at the Foggy Bottom Campus. Plans, assigns, reviews, supervises and inspects the work of others. Provides skill training to employees to ensure the team’s capacity to perform complex tasks and to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Plans, implements, and administers a preventative maintenance program to provide maximum life to facilities in accordance with industry standards.
  • Coordinates and facilitates walkthrough inspections and due diligence investigations.
  • Provides regular reports and status updates to the Assistant Director of Building Services.
  • Possesses a comprehensive knowledge of trade tools and of occupational hazards, safety precautions, local codes, and regulations pertaining to a trade or trades.
  • Understands FPCM goals and objectives, policies and procedures, as well as, ability to work and communicate effectively in a diverse environment with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Advises FPCM Leadership on possible alternatives to proposed projects and equipment purchases.
  • Facilitates the procurement processes associated with outsourcing minor projects.
  • Orders or directs the ordering of materials and equipment.
  • Schedules and issues work orders and performs inspections for quality control.
  • Collaborates with other FPCM teams and GW partners to provide shared support for various division wide special projects.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 4 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

A High School Diploma or G.E.D certificate with four or more years of progressive and practical experience in at least one or more of the skilled trades. Graduation from a trades school (or the completion of a certified licensed program) that involved light construction and/or building maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
A minimum of four years of experience in light construction and/or building maintenance that involves a reasonable knowledge of trades like electrical, plumbing and carpentry, to include at least one year of lead worker/supervisory experience.
  • Understanding of the District of Columbia building codes.
  • Proficiency with computers, other smart devices, and work management applications (like AiM). Proficiency with personal computer to access and update date, maintain inventory, supply and equipment information and work orders.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices based on industry standards, injury and illness prevention practices is preferred.
