Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Abacus Evaluation is a Research Service Center closely integrated with the Center for Health Equity Research (CHER) at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Abacus specializes in evaluation, network analysis, and data science & analytics and is committed to amplifying the impact and effectiveness of client and partner projects. Abacus’ leadership consists of experienced evaluators who maintain currency with state-of-art research and evaluation methodologies. Abacus uses a variety of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed method approaches to address the research and evaluation questions identified in our projects. 
The Evaluation unit is a critical workstream of Abacus and will support the research and operations activities of ongoing projects. This position will report to an Abacus Evaluation Research Program Manager under the oversight of Abacus Director Dr. Gaurav Dave, Associate Professor in the School of Medicine and Associate Director of the Center for Health Equity Research (CHER). This position will work within Abacus to assist in the evaluation and operations activities of projects such as the Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics-Underserved Populations (RADx-UP), Coordination and Data Collection Center (CDCC), and other evaluation projects.

Position Summary
Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine’s Working Forward initiative. As such, this position’s work location is designated as hybrid. Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit’s business needs.
The Evaluation Specialist will work closely with Abacus Research Program Managers, evaluation research staff and other program stakeholders to implement day-to-day technical and operational activities related to planning, implementation, and dissemination of findings from projects within Abacus’ portfolio. 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
1. Developing evaluation plans: Reviewing literature and historical data to adopt the most appropriate frameworks/approach to answer evaluation questions. Constructing evaluation frameworks, logic models and key performance indicators to guide the implementation of evaluation plans. 
2. Designing evaluation instruments and data collection procedures: The individual will work with scientists and data staff to develop analysis plans, construct, test and validate evaluation surveys including interview guides 
3. Synthesizing and disseminating evaluation findings to a variety of audiences: The individual will work with evaluation leads in preparing data briefs, data dashboards, reports, presentations, and manuscripts based on data collected and sources for evaluation purposes
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and internet browsers. 
Experience with statistical analysis software (e.g., STATA, R, SAS
Experience with survey software
Ability to use project management software 
Experience with data visualization software 
Experience related to designing and implementing the monitoring and evaluation processes for research, community-engaged initiatives, and health programs 
Knowledge and experience in utilizing or conducting mixed-methods research or evaluation 
Experience in reviewing literature, interpreting research results and disseminating findings to technical and non-technical audiences 
Ability to develop timelines and take guidance from supervisor to develop scopes of work. 
Excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to consistently follow through and follow up with others’ assignments. 
Ability to work independently, identify needs, and develop and implement improvements. 
Strong attention to detail with a focus on ensuring the accuracy, validity, and integrity of data. 
Ability to communicate in writing, concisely, professionally, and effectively and verbally with staff, faculty, and individuals in other organizations, including report writing.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Strong background/experience in designing and implementing public health, social science or equity-focused research and/or evaluation programs 
Experience with designing mixed-methods data collection tools for research and or evaluation Prefer candidates who have experience with quantitative and qualitative statistical analysis software, REDCap and Tableau.
