Position Summary:

Applies professional knowledge or expertise in one or more specialty areas within EH&S and serves as lead person on the campus ergonomics program and conducts general occupational safety duties to support the Safety and Injury Prevention unit. Serving as the program manager over Ergonomics, the safety specialist will conduct tasks and develop processes to reduce liabilities and costs associated with employees that incur Repetitive Motion Injuries (RMI) and Manual Material Handling (MMH) in line with CalOSHA requirements. Conducts ergonomic evaluations of workplace settings, investigates RMI and MMH injuries, makes recommendations to modify work equipment and processes, oversees the RSS Ergo/Cardinus evaluation platform, and manages the ergonomic consultant. Decision-making is based on established procedures; relevant laws; regulations and organizational policy; professional best practices; relevant science methodology; impact on other EH&S programs, and senior management approvals as required. Also assists with other occupational safety duties such as job hazard analyses, equipment purchase reviews, and shop inspections. Work is reviewed upon completion to ensure predetermined objectives are adequately met and that application of professional / technical judgment is sound. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice.

$75,000.00 - $85,000.00 (Annual Salary) Expected Pay Range within the Full Salary Range $73,900.00 - $133,700.00 (Annual Salary)
Required:
3 or more years' experience in occupational safety required. 3 or more years' experience conducting ergonomic assessments required.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Professional certification in ergonomics preferred, CPE, AEP, CEAS
Thorough knowledge / understanding of specific EH&S field(s) including related laws and regulations; and general knowledge / understanding of all EH&S fields. Thorough knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting applicable local, state, and federal regulations and related Cal/OSHA standards and guidelines. Thorough written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen and skill to communicate effectively with staff, their management, EH&S management, and student workers in a diverse environment. Strong analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize and manage the successful completion of projects within time and budget constraints. Strong skill to appropriately use technology and relevant scientific equipment as required.
Preferred:
Professional certification preferred.
