The equipment checkout staff member assists in maintaining the functionality of available checkout center equipment and performs light maintenance and repairs on complex studio and rental equipment. Responsibilities include assisting with equipment reservations, checkouts, and returns; maintaining the equipment database; monitoring classrooms and labs to ensure hardware is fully operational; and seeing that students and faculty get the correct equipment. In this position, you are expected to answer questions from students and end users, act as a team leader for work-study students, and enter reservations into the online checkout system. You will also ensure student sets are operating safely and that students have proper setup equipment and technical systems.

Crucial aspects of this job involve ensuring the equipment is properly inspected, filing and forwarding troubleshooting reports, maintaining the neat storage of equipment and the order of studio spaces, and assisting with accurate inventory management. Additionally, the successful candidate at closing time inspects each room to ensure it’s ready for the next day, reports problems, assures kits are ready for next-day pickup, and enforces studio policies.

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's degree or commensurate cinematography experience
  • Experience with technical and safety guidelines required for film shoots and a general knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in the repair of specialized equipment
  • Exemplary customer service, communication, organization, scheduling, and troubleshooting skills
  • Proficient in computers, peripheral equipment, educational technologies, and both
    Windows and MacOS platforms

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:

  • Valid driver’s license

Travel required:

  • 10% to 20%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
