Job Summary
The Division of Risk Management and Safety has an opening for an Environmental Protection Specialist Ito support the AU Partnership with Fort Moore. This is an exciting opportunity to help support the Fort Moore environmental compliance program. The role provides compliance inspection, training, and consultation to the Fort Moore Maneuver Center of Excellence in the following specialized areas: Regulated Waste Management; Hazardous Materials Management; Underground Storage Tanks (UST); Aboveground Storage Tanks (AST) and SPCC; Title V Air Permit; and Stormwater/NPDES. This position will also perform spill response duties as part of the Fort Moore Spill Response Team.

Essential Functions
  • Conducts inspections for Hazardous Waste generating areas at Ft. Moore to ensure compliance with RCRA.
  • Performs inspections and assessments of the Fort Moore UST, AST, SPCC, Title V, Pollution Prevention (P2), MS4 and NPDES compliance.
  • Provides technical guidance in relation to regulated waste to include RCRA hazardous waste, universal waste, and other special wastes.
  • Reviews and provides guidance in multi-media areas related to Ft. Moore Environmental Management Division.
  • Designs, conducts, and coordinates training and education in areas of specialization.
  • Recommends actions and solutions for resolving/preventing violations.
  • Serves as the U.S. Army Fort Moore Maneuver of Excellence Staff Inspection Program (MCoE SIP) inspector, providing compliance-orientated feedback on applicable functional areas, identifying deficiencies, and bringing respective Fort Moore units environmental programs to standard.
  • Participate and provide support for hazmat spill emergency response.
  • Analyze data to provide interpretations of waste analysis and waste characterizations.

Minimum Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with a preference for a related major in a physical science, biological science, environmental science/engineering, occupational safety, industrial technology or closely related science.
Substitutions allowed for Education: When a candidate has the required experience, but lacks the required education, they may normally apply additional relevant experience toward the education requirement, at a rate of two (2) years relevant experience per year of required education.

Progressive environmental experience with implementing federal and state regulations hazardous waste management, UST’S, SPCC, Pollution Prevention, Stormwater/NPDES, or other related environmental programs.
