The compensation for this appointment will range from $25.85 – $30.85 hourly and reflects what California Baptist University reasonably expects to pay for this staff appointment. Position Summary Information


Summary
Under general supervision, performs facility inspections and provides technical guidance, training, and risk analysis to staff and faculty to ensure compliance with all applicable local, county, state, and federal regulations. In the event of an EHS emergency, may be required to work a flexible schedule to physically oversee or perform clean-up, or coordinate with emergency responders on evenings, nights, weekends and/or holidays. Has authority to halt activities which pose an imminent danger.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with implementing, and/or evaluating safety program components and policies to ensure compliance with relevant state, federal and local laws, rules and regulations.
  • Perform campus environmental health/safety inspection/risk analysis services for all facilities, construction sites and laboratories to identify recognized safety hazards/loss exposures.
  • Ensure proper identification, collection, labeling, recordkeeping, and safe storage of all campus chemical substances and hazardous waste.
  • Maintain detailed records including locations and inspections of potentially hazardous areas such as laboratories, emergency showers, emergency eye washes, chemical hoods, and compressed gas storage.
  • Maintain campus SDS information and facilitate dissemination of information to employees.
  • Work closely with licensed contractors to conduct safety inspections, ventilation and air quality surveys, asbestos inspections, and other environmental inspections in academic, administrative, student services, and student housing areas; recommends remedial action, ensuring compliance with CalOSHA safety standards.
  • May serve as point of contact with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies; respond to inquiries from faculty, staff, and campus visitors regarding EHS issues or concerns.
  • Participate in accident and near-accident investigations to maintain an environment that supports the health and safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Coordinate universal and hazardous waste disposal operations, including identification and classification, and segregation of waste; facilitate collection and transportation of materials with approved vendors.
  • Perform routing safety training (in person or online) for Facilities & Planning Services department and other departments on campus upon request.
  • Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers’ health and safety; react to emergency situations quickly and calmly.
  • A valid California Driver License is required.
  • OSHA 30 certification is required.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities
    This position could be responsible for assigning work and/or giving direction and training to employees or Student Workers. Could be responsible for directing/coordinating with outside contractors.

    • Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions.
    • Ability to perform inspections and approve installations.
    Education and/or Experience
    Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two (2) years of Environmental Health or Risk Management. Certified Industrial Hygienist or Certified Safety Professional preferred. LEED credentials, CMI certification, CalOSHA Certification a plus.
