Environmental Health and Safety Tech 2

Under direct supervision, assists senior environmental health and safety technicians in the pickup and transport of chemical waste from campus labs, studios, makerspaces and utility operations, to the main chemical waste storage area. Also assists with processing chemical waste. This includes using a hand-held scanner and laptop computer. Segregate chemicals by hazard class and storing chemical containers in the appropriate area.

Job duties are physically demanding, require good driving skills, and may require laboratory inspections or other research safety duties as assigned.

• Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
• Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
• Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

• Knowledge of chemical storage
• Valid driver's license
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• HAZWOPER training 
• MS Excel skills
• Experience with RCRA regulations
• Bachelor's in chemistry or other physical science
• Academic research laboratory experience
