Job Summary:

The Edward Lau lab at the University of Colorado SOM is seeking applicants for a full-time Entry Laboratory Science Professional position in the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology. This position is for a professional research staff to assist in performing mammalian tissue culture and cell biology experiments in biomedical research laboratories. Research in the laboratory seeks to understand the role of intercellular communication and crosstalk during fibrosis and heart diseases. Funded projects will develop and apply human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) and systems biology techniques to characterize secreted protein factors and extracellular vesicles in disease models in vitro.

The Entry Laboratory Science Professional will be tasked to work independently or as part of a team in the Division on various molecular and cellular biology experiments, including cell culture, immunostaining, and protein & nucleotide analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions.
  • Perform large scale sequencing and proteomics experiments to measure protein turnover, localization, and secretion in human induced pluripotent stem cell systems and/or mammalian models.
  • Perform bioprinting experiments using human induced pluripotent stem cells or primary or secondary cell lines.
  • Perform engineered heart tissue experiments and assess drug effects, maturity, and cardiotoxicity.
  • Assist in the review and implementation of lab support policies, practices and programs to meet organizational, operations and management needs.

Work Location:

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab.
  • Prior experience with mammalian cell culture.
  • Prior experience with scientific programming and statistics using R/Python.
  • Prior experience with large scale bulk or single cell RNA sequencing or proteomics approaches.

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary for this position has been established as $42,088.

The above salary represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
