Organizational Unit Overview
Information Technology and Computing Services (ITCS) is the central agency that supports enterprise-wide computing at East Carolina University. ITCS, through innovative information technology initiatives and service, provides opportunities for the ECU community to excel in teaching, research, and service using state-of-the-market technology and collaborative environments. ITCS is first and foremost committed to providing excellent information technology support for faculty, staff, and students. ITCS partners with campus departments, other universities, and industry to make strategic investments in information technology infrastructure that will help maintain a competitive advantage in administrative applications, faculty research, and outreach to the state and nation. We will achieve this through increasing the core functions and deploying appropriate technology throughout the university.
The Enterprise Storage Team is responsible for the evaluation, implementation, monitoring, maintenance, and management of all components of SAN-attached storage, Enterprise Network Attached Storage, SAN fiber switches, and the Enterprise Backup Environment. The infrastructure supports the entire campus and is a critical component in the broader ITCS services delivery.
Job Duties
• Day-to-day management and support of the University’s Enterprise Storage Infrastructure including storage area networks, block storage arrays, and network attached storage and related equipment and applications.
• Assist clients with basic to intermediate-level storage access issues and provide timely ticket resolution.
• Provision new storage resources on request.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex problems; installation, configuration; testing and documentation of software/hardware issues and resolutions.
• Monitor and maintain overall system security, upgrade hardware, software, patching, and remediating system level vulnerabilities.
• Participate in testing disaster recovery plans.
• Function as a resource on short and long-term projects of varying degrees of size and complexity.
• Collaborate and consult with internal and external resources offering technical expertise and recommendations.
• On-call in a 24×7×365 weekly rotation with other team members which requires on site presence during business hours.
The standard work schedule for this position will need to be adjusted to meet the position requirements, which include and are not limited to evening and weekend hours to perform scheduled and unscheduled workload requirements to maintain University operations.
This position may be eligible for Flexible Work Arrangements (FWA) under the ECU FWA Policy.
Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • Master’s degree; or a bachelor’s degree and 2 years’ experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience supporting enterprise class storage technologies in a 24×7 production datacenter environment.
  • Experience configuring, supporting, and managing enterprise-class storage arrays such as:
  • Pure FlashArray, EMC Clariion, VNX, Unity, Isilon, Data Domain, and NetApp e-series or equivalents
  • Experience with enterprise-class switching such as:
  • Cisco MDS edge, MDS-director switches, UCS-Fabric Interconnects or equivalents
  • Experience with enterprise-class SAN attached servers such as:
  • Cisco UCS blade/rack, IBM blade center, Dell or equivalents
  • Experience with providing data access with storage protocols such as:
  • CIFS/SMB, NFS, FC, FOoE or equivalents
  • Experience with enterprise-class backup/archive/restore software and hardware such as:
  • Veritas Netbackup or equivalents
  • Familiarity with management software, tools and utilities such as:
  • Cisco UCS-Director/Central/Intersight, Varonis, EMC Vipr/DPA or equivalents
  • Familiarity with SAN topology and performance and high-availability best practices for both physical and virtual server environments with host operating systems such as:
  • Windows Server, RHEL, VMWare, Hyper-v, Citrix, or equivalents
  • Familiarity with LAN concepts such as:
  • IP, DNS, NTP and related troubleshooting
  • Training: Relevant certification preferred
