The Opportunity

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking an Enterprise Desktop Administrator to join the Information Technology department in Daytona Beach, Florida, or in a teleworking arrangement. The Enterprise Desktop Administrator provides technical support and solutions for the university-wide desktop computing environment including Windows (physical and virtual), MacOS, and Linux workstations. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining enterprise desktop configurations, global group policy, patch and update policies and procedures, and management of software suites (cloud and on-premises). The Enterprise Desktop Administrator partners with campus IT Services teams, Infrastructure, and IT Security to ensure enterprise desktop solutions balance security and ease of use while meeting the desktop computing needs of the University.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Work with other IT teams to develop, implement and maintain desktop management tools.  
  • Create, deploy, test, and maintain images for Windows, MacOS, and Linux.
  • Manage and develop current Azure Virtual Desktop infrastructure and images.
  • Package and deploy software to MECM Software Center and workstations.
  • Maintain Active Directory group policies and organization units that pertains to the desktop computing environment.
  • Automate endpoint security patching for Windows and Linux workstations and stay compliant with established security policies.  
  • Administration of enterprise desktop management tools such as Microsoft Endpoint Configurations Manager (MECM), Intune, Ansible Semaphore, Addigy Mac Management, Deep Freeze, GitHub, and LabStats.  
  • Monitor and assess desktop performance; identify and recommend solutions to meet customer needs. 
  • Responds to tickets or escalations from IT support teams.
  • Troubleshoots and determine solutions to technology issues.
  • Attends meetings related to desktop administration and support.
  • Collaborates with University and other campus Information Technology departments to understand new technology needs and challenges.
  • Participates in projects, committees, and task forces as assigned and keeps abreast of technology trends and recommends innovative solutions.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • High school diploma (or GED) required and at least five years of relevant technical experience.
  • Passionate about technology. Self-motivated in continually to learn, adopt and innovate with existing and new technologies. 
  • Extensive knowledge in create and maintain desktop provisioning on Windows. 
  • Extensive knowledge in configuring and managing MECM. Experience with similar tools are encouraged to apply. 
  • Basic bare metal and virtual server administration experience on Windows and Ubuntu platforms. 
  • Proficient with Windows Active Directory management. Strong understanding of Group Policy Object (GPO) and Organization Unit (OU). 
  • Strong grasp of deployment strategies for image or software installations on large scale of workstations. 
  • PowerShell, Batch and bash scripting knowledge. 
  • Knowledge in Kickstart and GRUB or similar tools for workstation imaging on LINUX. 
  • Knowledge of MacOS. 
  • Able to write technical documentation or knowledgebase articles. 
  • Excellent organization and planning skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including technical writing. 
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in working on several issues at one time and adapting to frequent changes.
  • Excellent customer service skills. 
  • Must be a detail-oriented problem solver with strong analytical skills. 
  • Excellent verbal and written skills with ability to communicate with various levels of customers in professional manner. 
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision. 
  • Strong organization skills. 
  • Ability to plan, manage and implement tasks in a complex university environment.
  • Able to handle difficult or complex situations and still maintain composure under pressure. 
  • Able to conform with established procedures and policies. 
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with University and other campus Information Technology staff members.
