Veterans Affairs

The Enrollment Counselor for Military-Connected Students provides a concierge approach to serving military-connected students to assist with enrollment efforts, provide support of related military educational benefits and retention this unique group of students. Additional responsibilities include providing military educational benefit information those utilizing Tuition Assistance to service members and their dependents as directed by federal funding agencies to include the Department of Defense and the Department of Veteran Affairs. General responsibilities include assisting military-connected students with the enrollment process to include how to utilize education benefits such as Tuition Assistance and Veteran Education benefits.  Assist with office coverage and the day-to-day operations of the Military-Connected Student Services Offices as well as the Military-Connected Study area.  

Responsibilities include: Be a point of contact for the Columbus State University Ft. Moore Office and hold office hours at the Education Center.; Maintain educational enrollment information with various branches of military as well as with the Department of Veterans Affairs and assist with certifying enrollment.; Communicates with military-connected students and parents by phone, email, and in person about CSU programs, enrollment process as well as information on utilizing military education benefits.; Provide support for students which may include but not be limited to developing materials which provide resources for students, awareness of events, scholarships, planning workshops, etc.; Practices continuous process improvement methods to their specific job duties and responsibilities.; Demonstrates strong written and oral communication skills.; Work is performed with considerable independence and requires initiative.; Attends professional organization conferences and events that will offer professional development opportunities.; Willingly performs other duties as assigned and directed by the Director of Military-Connected Student Services.; Weekend and evening work may occasionally be required throughout the academic year to support University enrollment activities.; Must have a valid driver's license. 

Required Qualifications include: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or minimum of five years related work experience, or relevant combination of education and work experience.; Experience working in an office setting and customer service environment.; Proficient in the use of Word and Excel.; Experience in the use of Power Point.; Experience working with a diverse group of employees or students.
 

Preferred Qualifications include: Experience working in a higher education environment.

The annual salary range for this position is $34,868-$37,852 and includes full benefits.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities include: Ability to interact effectively with a varied internal and external Ability to change tasks quickly and effectively during periods of high volume activity.; Attention to detail.; Ability to function and apply professional judgment with a minimum of supervision while participating in office operations as part of an effective and efficient team.; A strong commitment to on-going customer service improvement.; Proven ability to understand and implement complex policies and procedures, many of which are interrelated.; Two to three years in a customer service-related position in a higher education enrollment setting.; Working knowledge of military enrollment services provided for veterans and their dependents which facilitates connecting students with subject matter experts in veteran educational benefits, admissions, financial aid, registration, student records, career services, and/or academic advising.; Excellent oral and written communication skills.; Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite programs such as Word and Excel and excellent computer keying skills.; Presents a well-composed, professional, welcoming, and inviting presence for guests who visit the Military-Connected Student Services office and greets guests who visit and offers service as deemed appropriate and needed based on customer needs.; Demonstrate strong ability to understand and interpret federal policy to ensure favorable compliance audits by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense regarding Veteran Administration and Tuition Assistance benefits.

For Faculty Hires : Final candidates will be required to provide proof of completed academic degree(s) as well as post-secondary coursework in the form of original transcript(s).
