The Laney Graduate School:
The Laney Graduate School (LGS) enrolls approximately 2,000 students in close to 50 doctoral and master’s degree programs with faculty members from the College of Arts and Sciences and the professional schools of Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Theology, Business, and Law. LGS recruits students from across the US and internationally and has research and program collaborations with Georgia Institute of Technology, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other institutions.
English Language Support Program
The English Language Support Program provides written and oral communication support to enrolled Laney Graduate School students who use English as an additional language. The students supported by the ELSP are multilingual master’s and doctoral students across LGS programs in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.
The position, English Language Specialist, is a 12-month faculty position with a teaching load of up to 10 credit-hours in Fall, up to 8 in the Spring, and up to 6 in the Summer I semester as well as other teaching and program duties, as outlined below.
Major responsibilities include:
Qualifications:
- Master’s or PhD in Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or a related field.
- 3+ years’ experience teaching English as an Additional Language to diverse student populations in an academic setting.
- Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of English users ranging from Intermediate to Advanced High (ACTFL scale).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- We will request three letters of recommendation, teaching statement, and other materials for finalist candidates who advance through our multi-stage interview process.
