Position Summary
The Department of English Language & Literature at Central Michigan University seeks a full-time, benefit eligible fixed-term, non-tenure track faculty member beginning August 19, 2024.
  • Teach four sections per semester, from among three courses (as needed and assigned): ENG 101 (Introductory Composition), ENG 103 (First-Year Writing, which also has a 1-credit Writing Center co-requisite), and ENG 201 (Intermediate Composition). Modalities may include face-to-face, hybrid, and online asynchronous.
  • Engage in professional development activities within the department (as needed). Fixed-term faculty are invited, but not required, to join department committees.
Required Qualifications
  • MA in Composition & Rhetoric or English Language & Literature or a closely related field.
  • Experience teaching college composition and developmental writing.
  • Experience teaching online.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with students who struggle with writing, including those for whom English is a second language.
  • Experience teaching online or in hybrid delivery formats.
  • Experience as a Writing Center consultant.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

About the Department
The Department of English Language & Literature is part of the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences and is located in Anspach Hall on the lovely main campus in Mount Pleasant, MI. We have two majors, four minors, a certificate program, and an MA in Creative Writing. We provide faculty with an office and computer, and our classrooms have up-to-date instructional technology.
