Engineering Assistant

The Engineering Assistant (EA) position within the Division of Design and Construction fills a critical need for our project management teams. Our EAs have entry level experience, but have completed their engineering degrees and are ready to fully embrace the tasks of working through projects cradle to grave. They work under the close guidance of other team members, but are encouraged to make decisions and use engineering judgment to solve problems. They provide support to the Project Manager and Contract Manager by performing inspections of contractor work, coordinating information requests from contractors and consultants and reviewing contract submittals. The Division of Design and Construction fills a valuable role to new engineers by providing conscious mentoring and a well-rounded experience that includes design, management and communication.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

1. Computer Aided Drafting (CAD)

2. Engineering or Architectural Principles

3. Construction methods: Construction scheduling, cost estimating and materials of construction

4. Computer Software proficiency (Word processing & spreadsheets.)

Preferred Experience & Education:

1. Some work experience acquired in an entry-level engineering position or appropriate graduate level study. 

2. The ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.  The ability to navigate and access construction sites.


Required Experience & Education:

1. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Architecture and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam within six months of employment. (The FE exam requirement does not apply to architects.)
2. Valid driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month, term-funded, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package . New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule , Grade 79, based on education and experience.
