As a maintenance engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our hospital's facilities. This entry-level position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the seamless operation of critical systems that supports patient care and overall hospital functionality, all while growing a career in a supportive and collaborative environment.  

Reads, understands and interprets blueprints, drawings, floor plans and schedules as they relate to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC equipment, and other specialized utility systems. Supports the facility and staff in project coordination, management, operations and maintenance for hospital equipment & systems for hospital buildings, medical buildings and subsidiary buildings for UAB Medicine and UAB.

 

ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

·        Coordinates the maintenance and improvement of system components in compliance with building codes and regulations.

·        Maintains contact with administrators, directors, architects, contractors, engineers, supervisors, maintenance personnel, and others to ensure that adequate service levels are maintained.

·        Coordinates and monitors maintenance contracts. Develops and implements Quality Control programs. Develops and coordinates training programs.

·        Prepares technical analyses and financial reports, utilizing spreadsheets, databases and desktop publishing software.

·        Provides technical assistance to department, training and management guidance to department personnel in support of operations, and preventive/corrective maintenance procedures.

·        Develops contingency plans for system failures. Utilizes CMMS for work issues and reporting

·        Maintains policies, procedures and job plans.

·        Records keeping of facility repairs and significant events. Orders and receives supplies and equipment.

·        Develops and implements a scheduled and routine preventive maintenance program for all mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment with periodic evaluation of program effectiveness.

·        Diagnoses MEP systems and equipment failure. Evaluates MEP and other building system specifications prepared by architects and engineers to determine conformance with departmental and University standards.

·        Responsive to emergent issues.

·        May supervises skilled craft, contractors and other technical staff.

·        Attends safety meetings and other required meetings and training.  

 

STARTING RATE OF PAY: $57,940.00 - $78,000.00 (Commensurate with qualifications and experience)

 

Qualifications

 

Bachelor's degree in Engineering and one (1) year of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. In order to qualify, please be certain to showcase meeting minimum qualifications on job profile. Please list all current certifications and/or licenses. Work experience should showcase successful progression in responsibilities and demonstrated leadership skills.  Incomplete job profiles will not be processed.

·        Incumbent must have flexibility due to on-call requirements. Position is designated as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to work during emergency situations, such as inclement weather, regardless of the University’s closure. Employees should be prepared to travel to work during inclement weather, emphasizing the importance of their role in critical situations.

·        Required to possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities that require performing tasks requiring wearing respirator and other personal protective equipment, such as self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), to include:

·        Lifting and carrying a minimum of fifty (50) pounds

·        Climbing stairs, ladders and scaffolding, and working at heights above thirty (30) feet

·        Performing tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings in the hospital, working in confined spaces, sitting at desk, and staring at computer screen, for long periods of time, and working within extreme temperature ranges

 

Licenses / Certifications / Registrations:

Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business. Current underwriting guidelines include possession a valid driver’s license, issued in the United States; at least 21 years of age; at least three years of driving experience; maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
