The office of Graduate Student Services (GSS) seeks an Employer Development Consultant who is committed to building and fostering relationships with key International Affairs employers. This outstanding individual will join our team of highly motivated, goal-oriented, results-driven professionals. Reporting to the Assistant Director, Employer Development Consultant plays an integral role in the design, delivery, and management of career and professional development programs, seminars, and sessions (online and in-person), in order to educate students on career management methodology, and also assists with the collection and reporting of statistics on student employment outcomes. They will be expected to create, develop, and maintain relationships with industry-specific contacts to facilitate the employment of Elliott School of International Affairs students. Key responsibilities include:
Build and Manage the Employer Relations Program:
  • Develop and execute strategies to attract new employers and expand existing relationships in the International Affairs field.
  • Work with employers to enhance their presence on campus.
  • Coordinate major career events and networking programs.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activity to identify opportunities for growth.
  • Collaborate with GW University colleagues and partners, including Central Career Services, Development and Alumni Relations, and student organizations.

Student Career Development:
  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate career development programs to build foundational career skills of students.
  • Collaborate with employers on student-facing events and programs.
  • Collaborate with Graduate Student Services team to share employment trends, opportunities, and strategies on how to best engage students.
  • Conduct and/or customize meetings and presentations for student workshops and classes.
  • Provide relevant market insight to students.
  • Support and participate in career services events.

Data Management and Technology Resources:
  • Manage the process for collecting and analyzing employment data from recent graduates.
  • Contribute to the annual Employment Survey and Annual Report.
  • Provide bench marketing data on recruiting trends.
  • Assist in the management of internal technology platforms designed to enhance employer engagement.
  • Integrating technology to provide efficiency and efficacy to the ESIA’s recruitment and employer development process is critical.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
This position is hybrid with some days in the office and some days remote.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Two+ years of experience in university career services, employer relations, human resources/recruiting, or business development preferred.
  • Successful experience performing employer outreach, employer engagement and/or relationship management with alumni &/or volunteers highly desired.
  • Significant event planning experience with strong organizational and time management skills highly desired.
  • International experience with a solid understanding of the international affairs culture and marketplace, including the recruitment needs and practices of employers in a variety of international sectors and career paths is strongly desired.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and adapt to shifting priorities.

  • High proficiency in MS 365, especially Excel and PowerPoint, along with demonstrated in-depth experience working with CMS databases and social media such as LinkedIn and other networking sites.
  • Prior experience with e-learning platforms such as Blackboard and Handshake desired.
