Shift:  
 PRN, At least one 12 hour shift biweekly

Location:  University Hospital, Columbia MO

Department:  Emergency Department (floats between University ED, Women’s ED, ED Observation)

Salary:  $15.76/hr prn rate plus $2 for nights, weekends, evenings

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Provide administrative and clerical support for the department to include: process emergency physician orders, including computer entry. Answer phones, direct calls, and take messages for physicians, nurses, and staff. Function as the resource person and department communicator; such as knowing the location of staff, equipment, and supplies. Maintain inventory and par levels of unit forms and general office supplies. Coordinate paperwork for the unit.
Maintain accurate and timely entry of information into the computerized bed-management system.
Perform charge entry duties, and collect patient and unit data as assigned.
Assist in the coordination of emergencies and codes.
Demonstrate the ability to organize workload and manage multiple tasks while maintaining a clutter-free and orderly environment including prompt answering of unit telephones and accurate delivery of messages and information to patients, families, visitors, staff, and personnel upon request.
Educate and train new ESRs, students, and other staff related to ESR activities and responsibilities.
Maintain appropriate medical records and other forms needed during computer downtime.
Deliver/ pick up lab specimens and supplies from other departments.

Coordinate and facilitate department activities to include: Promptly answering call lights using positive guest relations skills and notifying appropriate staff. Monitor visitors in the department and alert staff to possible problems and security issues.
Greet and direct patients, visitors, and employees with courtesy and respect, and address them professionally. Utilize the principles of Patient Family-Centered Care.
Promote and achieve the satisfaction of internal customers. Effectively intercede with families and patients and resolve concerns if able, if not able consult with RN providing care to the patient.
Assist nursing staff /ancillary staff as needed in both routine and emergent situations including the transfer of patients from bed to bed, stretcher, or wheelchair.
May complete unit/department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

 

Qualifications

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.

Two (2) years of customer service or equivalent.  College or equivalent degree may be substituted for experience.

Knowledge of computer keyboard.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Strong customer service and team orientation.
