Job Summary
The Emergency Management Specialist is a student employee position within the Emergency Management department that assists in a wide variety of activities designed to help maintain and mature the University’s emergency management program.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintain and enhance IT applications and equipment that support the University’s emergency management program
- Assist in the development and maintenance of various emergency plans
- Assist in administration of the Building Coordinator program
- Assist in maintaining the department’s inventory
- Assist with the maintenance of campus two-way radio systems, including distribution of cache radio equipment
- Assist in developing emergency preparedness awareness and education campaigns
- Conduct, critique, and document routine tests of various emergency-related systems

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
The Emergency Management Specialist reports to the Emergency Management Coordinator. This position will collaborate with Emergency Management staff members and with University employees and students.
Pay Rate
$15.00/hour
Required Qualifications
- Extreme attention to detail
- Strong organizational, planning, and thinking on-the-fly skills
- Competency in the Microsoft Office suite of applications (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Comfortable working with various software and applications
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate with individuals from various technical and educational backgrounds
- Ability to work independently when necessary
- High personal integrity and self-motivated
- Excellent interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
Academic or practical experience within one or more disciplines of public safety (law enforcement, fire service, emergency medical services, public health, health sciences, nursing, emergency management, life guard, Cadets/Explorers/Civil Air Patrol/Scouts, etc.)
Work Hours
Flexible hours within a standard 8:00 - 4:30 p.m. work week. Some evening or weekend hours may be required, depending on availability.
Functional Expectations
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
