Job Summary:

Provides highly skilled assisted reproductive technology (ART) laboratory work, as a combination of technical and managerial tasks including quality control/assurance, on a daily basis. Responsible for management of human gametes, embryos and reproductive tissues, and provides input into clinical decisions. The embryologist can work independently in the clinical and research laboratories as delegated by the board certified Laboratory Director.

Job Duties:

1.     Handles all essential clinical ART laboratory tasks, including: gamete and embryo identification, grading, handling, and processing for ART procedures; gamete and embryo culture; insemination; micromanipulation (ICSI, assisted hatching, etc.)

2.     Assists in advanced laboratory techniques including gamete/embryo biopsies and cryopreservation.. Coordinates biopsied specimens for genetic testing. Coordinates transfers of embryos between facilities, to include paperwork, specimen loading and shipping.

3.     Learns new technologies under guidance and supervision of Lab Director.

4.     Enters data into electronic health records (EHR). Maintains patient laboratory database. Coordinates patient information for gamete and embryo status with physicians, nurses and laboratory personnel.

5.     Tracks and complies all data regarding ART laboratory quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC). Performs continuous quality improvement (CQI) and control documentation. Performs equipment maintenance and monitors quality management of the IVF lab.

6.     Maintains and revises laboratory protocols under guidance and approval of Laboratory Director. Assist Laboratory Director in the development of new procedures and technologies.

7.     Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education:

Bachelors Degree in biological sciences, laboratory sciences, or related majors is required.

Experience:

Two (2) years of job related experience in a reproductive technology laboratory is required.
