Under direction from the Skilled Crafts Trades Supervisor, the Electrician will be involved in construction projects in UCSD Health facilities. The candidate will use skills as a seasoned tradesman to research, plan and install electrical systems in an occupied hospital setting. The electrician is expected interact professionally with hospital staff, project managers, inspectors, and contractors to coordinate and maintain workflow. UCSD specifications and OSHPD requirements are enforced. The job will involve the ability to work in confined spaces, bending or stooping for long periods, crawling into ceilings spaces/interstitials, and working from ladders or elevated platforms.

Responsibilities include:

  • Researching electrical projects in an occupied hospital setting.
  • Assist in the planning of projects.
  • Order material.
  • Provide input on schedules.
  • Coordinate with staff, project managers, inspectors, contractors, infection control.
  • Install electrical raceways, conductors, and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Must have valid California Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
  • Proof of Journeyman Electrician status and Journeyman level work experience in a large campus/corporate environment.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience working on institutional construction projects.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience working on OSHPD regulated projects/facilities.
  • Skill in interpreting schematic drawings, charts and technical instructions.
  • Knowledge of the application and use of testing equipment utilized in checking, testing, and analyzing electrical systems such as load recorders, phase and rotation testers, multi-meters, etc.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally, in writing or electronically
  • Ability to effectively work individually or in teams as well as with diverse groups
  • Electrician License.
  • California General Electrician Certification.
  • Completion of an electrical apprenticeship program.
  • UCSD University and/or Medical Center environment experience.
  • NFPA 70E Arc Flash Training.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $97,865 - $97,865 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $46.87 - $46.87

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
