CAPITAL PLANNING (UA-UART-IUINA)

The Capital Planning & Facilities (CPF) mission is to create a physical environment that fosters success. We plan, create, maintain, and preserve Indiana University's beautiful, functional, and sustainable campuses. A unit within CPF, Engineering Services provides engineering solutions for IU campuses, our team of licensed engineers and skilled systems designers provides mechanical and electrical engineering services and handles special engineering projects for all IU campuses. Engineering Services also provides technical consulting and support for other divisions within Capital Projects.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Participates in departmental project teams and other duties as assigned by leadership.
  • Reviews design documents for compliance with University Standards.
  • Provides technical support to the Facility Maintenance teams at various university campuses.
  • Develops project scope and budgets in a timely manner.
  • Manages projects with outside consultants and in-house design from initial conception to completion for all university campuses and other properties.
  • Communicates with University Staff and Faculty, outside consultants, vendors, contractors, facility maintenance teams and other members of the Capital Planning and Facilities team.

General Responsibilities

  • Designs/coordinates electrical systems and inspects projects during/after installations.
  • Reviews plans/specs, etc. for new installations and renovations.
  • Assists in design/procurement/maintenance of communication and classroom technology systems.
  • Performs field surveys of existing electrical conditions. 
  • Prepares project cost estimates.
  • Consults on electrical operation/maintenance problems.
  • Assists in developing IU design standards.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 2 years designing of institutional/commercial/residential electrical systems

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required

  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire

SKILLS

Required

  • Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of electrical systems in facilities
  • Knowledge and application of all related codes including: national fire codes, ADA requirements, Indiana building and electrical codes, and NEC standards
  • Ability to operate a computer, have knowledge of Microsoft Office, CADD, Excel, lighting design software, generator-sizing software; volt meter; load recorder; etc., and building codes application
  • Demonstrates experience and competency in the following fields: customer service, communication, working in teams and problem solving

Preferred

  • Knowledge and application of all IU standards governing architectural, electrical and CAD standards

This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
