Tenure faculty (regardless of rank) - persons with the titles of professor, associate professor, assistant professor and instructor who serve on appointments totaling 50% or more service to the university and who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. Duties and responsibilities are assigned in accordance with the workload guidelines laid out in the pattern of administration of each faculty member’s tenure initiation unit (TIU) and, as appropriate, regional campus; obligations will include research, service and/or teaching or clinical practice.  These faculty will have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study or possession of equivalent experience.

The Department of Engineering Education (https://eed.osu.edu/ ; EED) at The Ohio State University invites applications for two regular tenure-track faculty appointments starting at the associate level, in the area of engineering education.

Position Overview

We invite applications for a tenured faculty positions at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. We are seeking innovative scholars in engineering education who will help further the growth of our department.

Performance Objectives

The Associate or Full Professor will be required to individually establish a research program, secure outside funding, advise graduate students within our engineering education Ph.D. program, and teach courses across the department, including our first-year engineering program. This individual will engage with the department across the various programmatic areas (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Multidisciplinary Capstone; Integrated Business and Engineering; Graduate Studies and Research; Engineering Technical Communications; and Fundamentals of Engineering).

Education and Experience Requirements

Required:

  • Ph.D. or terminal degree in an engineering discipline, computing discipline, engineering education, computing education, education, learning sciences, or equivalent field from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Record of innovative and influential education-based research through publications and other outlets
  • Past record of securing external funding to support novel research and graduate students
  • Experience using evidence-based teaching practices in graduate and undergraduate higher education settings
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and promoting an inclusive and equitable organizational climate
  • Demonstrated service that has contributed to engineering education
  • Demonstrated commitment and capability to mentor a wide range of undergraduate and/or graduate students from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences
  • Examples of collaboration with internal (same institution) and external collaborators
  • Demonstrated efforts in research, teaching, and/or outreach and engagement that reflect Ohio State’s Shared Values

Desired :

  • Demonstrated expertise in the use of reflective and student-centered pedagogical practice
  • Evidence of successful collaboration with others, including but not limited to staff, students, instructors, and/ faculty members from different disciplines
  • Interest in actively engaging with other engineering and/or computing departments and colleges across The Ohio State University   
  • Demonstrated commitment and capability to mentor a wide range of faculty from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences
  • Experience as an engineering education leader in some official capacity and interest in future leadership opportunities

Department Information

The Department of Engineering Education (EED) is located within the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University. The EED’s mission includes advancing the engineering profession and enabling student success by:

  • Conducting and propagating world-class scholarship in engineering education
  • Modeling and advocating scholarly, evidence-based teaching within the College of Engineering
  • Developing and delivering state-of-the-art, innovative, multidisciplinary courses and programs in first-year engineering, engineering technical communication, multidisciplinary capstone design, and graduate education in engineering education.

The EED was created in November 2015 and the Ph.D. program was approved in Spring 2018. In Autumn 2023, approximately 25 graduate students will be enrolled in the engineering education doctoral program. Looking towards the future, the EED is positioned to grow and establish stronger connections across the College of Engineering and the field.
