Educational Outreach - Access ASU is currently hiring an Educational Outreach Specialist to support Access ASU programs which include, but are not be limited to, summer programs and other outreach college readiness programs designed to educate and prepare students and families for enrollment and success at ASU.
The ideal candidate must work well independently in a fast-paced, flexible environment, provide a high level of customer services to both the university and external communities, and make strong contributions both as an individual and as a team player. This position requires evidence of effective time management skills and success in being accountable for specific outcomes .
Specific duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Work as part of a team to support Access ASU programs and goals; develop strategic action plans in accordance with Access ASU program objectives.
  • Develop and support the implementation of summer programs, workshops, meetings, conferences, online offerings and other university opportunities that promote college knowledge and readiness for K-12 students and families for Access ASU programs and initiatives. Monitor operations, logistics, scheduling, and participant communications.
  • Recruit program participants to enroll in summer programs, conferences, workshops and online offerings.
  • Deliver training and professional development in the area of college readiness to K-12 administrators, teachers, counselors, community members and student employees. Consult with staff, students and others to provide technical advice, problem solving assistance, answer questions about program and unit and provide excellent Sun Devil Service. Resolve or assist with the resolution of sensitive and/or complex issues.
  • Provide supervision, training, and leadership to assigned professional and/or student employees to maximize impact for K-12 schools, students and families. Monitor development of action plans for assigned employees to ensure successful program implementation. Provide guidance as needed and help problem solve.
  • Develop and implement strategies for increasing access and outreach for K-12 students and families. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Outreach staff, K-12 schools, community organizations, ASU students, faculty, and staff to effectively implement programs and strategic initiatives.
  • Serve as an expert for area of assignment including, but not limited to, college readiness, summer programs and outreach. Evaluate program effectiveness to develop and implement improved methods and outcomes; analyze results, develop reports and recommend actions to ensure delivery of high quality programs to K-12 students, schools and families. Work to ensure the gathering of quality student participation information in support of Access ASU goals.
  • Responsible for ensuring all aspects of function/program are implemented and controlled according to plans.
  • Travel to off-campus meetings and events regularly, using personal vehicle.
  • Represent Access ASU at events and serve on various department and university committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Please note: Work location is primarily at the Tempe however, incumbent will regularly be required to drive personal vehicle to off-campus locations and other ASU campuses to perform work. Work schedule will be flexible, depending on when programs are offered, to include nights and weekends. On days when programs are not offered, work schedule will be Monday – Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two (2) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Evidence of an undergraduate degree in education or related field
  • Experience working with K-12 school systems or higher education systems 
  • Experience in admissions and/or outreach to K-12 students
  • Experience in designing presentation materials
  • Evidnece of effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in problem solving and decision-making
  • Experience in speaking, writing and reading in Spanish/English (bilingual)
  • Experience in managing multiple projects and prioritizing workload
  • Demonstrated knowledge of: college readiness, program evaluation, and/or workshop development
  • Experience working with diverse student populations (first generation, low-income, scholar)
  • Experience developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external partners
  • Professionally represent department/program
  • Sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Work collaboratively across various departments within the University as well as with diverse populations and groups
  • Develop and deliver presentations to groups
  • Use computers effectively - including inputting, reviewing and retrieving information, extended periods of viewing screen, and using mouse and keyboard
  • Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze data
  • Research, develop, implement and assess programs
  • Monitor expenditures
  • Supervise students and/or staff
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Walk throughout campus for meetings or events, regardless of the weather
  • Work collaboratively to achieve objectives
  • Travel to other campuses and off-campus, using personal vehicle
  • Ability to lift 35 lb .
Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) is committed to enrolling all qualified students at Arizona State University and assisting them in their academic success.
