Job Summary

UCSF is technologically and organizationally complex, with both centralized and departmental IT units providing support for enterprise and specialized services. UCSF IT provides infrastructure, network, security, analytics, integration, and application support services, and essential to the organization’s ability to support growth, mitigate security risk, and manage, store and share sensitive information. To better serve the Education Mission, UCSF IT has recently created a new IT Education unit, which is in a period of growth. Led by the Associate CIO for Education, this unit is charged with developing collaborative relationships, processes and services that appropriately enable the education community to execute their mission, while keeping UCSF’s IT environment secure and sufficiently cost effective. With a focus on diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility, this IT Education team is actively working to establish a computing architecture and services to support digital equity and digital transformation to support and advance the UCSF education mission.

Key Responsibilities:


Cross-Functional Team Collaboration:

  • Work in cross-functional teams to address complex education or system issues.
  • Apply advanced business analysis concepts to identify, evaluate, and define highly complex education systems and objectives for digital equity and digital transformation.

Business Requirements Development:

  • Develop business requirements, specifications, and user support designs for inclusive education information systems.
  • Perform complex analysis of business and diverse user needs, including use case modeling and user story creation.
  • Produce documentation of requirements and translate them into proper system and process requirement specifications.

Technology Implementation Management:

  • Plan, manage, schedule, and perform activities for education technology implementations and adoptions.
  • Define the scope and support needs for each implementation in collaboration with functional owners of processes within Professional Schools, Graduate Studies, Library, and others.

Other Duties:

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The hourly compensation range for this role is 

$36.25 - $56.56

. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate, position requirements, AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.


Required Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of higher education business and process analysis functions.
  • Advanced knowledge of related areas of education IT systems and pedagogical implementations.
  • Knowledge relating to the design of processes and educational technologies across the educational organization.
  • Advanced skills and methodologies associated with process and software design, modification and implementation.
  • Demonstrated skills needed to develop process and system implementation plans.
  • Demonstrated experience with process analysis, systems analysis, process architectures and systems analysis methodologies and practices including traditional waterfall, Agile, Agile Scrum, UML, UML Enterprise, et cetera.
  • Understanding and skill in complex process and systems requirement documentation standards, such as Use Case modeling, User Story creations and narrative description.
  • Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.

  • Advanced knowledge of business processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Interpersonal and communications skills to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
