Located in the fastest-growing region of the state, the University of North Georgia is a multi-campus university with an enrollment of over 18,000 students, making it one of the largest institutions in the University System of Georgia. UNG is focused on a mission of educational excellence, leadership development and community engagement opportunities that develop students into leaders for a diverse and global society. Through a variety of educational pathways that provide access and range from certificates and associate degrees to a professional doctoral program, UNG is responsive to regional education and economic development needs. This type of program is often referred to as a Professional Development Community (PDC). UNG College of Education graduates are highly regarded by regional school districts as a result of this focus on extended classroom experience.
The PDC model provides an opportunity for UNG faculty and school district faculty to engage students in a community of collaboration, professionalism, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to service. Partnerships established with the University of North Georgia teacher education programs and local school systems are designed to create environments that support professional development, personal growth, and academic excellence in the context of service to our students, colleagues, institution, community, and discipline. This partnership model allows for teaching, research, and professional development to be conducted in collaborative, creative, and inclusive groups of faculty peers that celebrate innovation, problem solving, and openness to discussion.
