Illinois Abroad and Global Exchange (IAGE) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has an opening for an Education Abroad Coordinator.
Illinois Abroad and Global Exchange (IAGE) is a unit within Illinois International that provides exceptional study abroad experiences through academically and professionally integrated pathways for Illinois students, faculty, and staff. The IAGE core services model provides support and guidance to students, faculty, and staff seeking to internationalize the University of Illinois' land grant mission. They serve as a collaborative partner to units across campus and seek to align their operations with best practices in the field of education abroad to promote global competence. Primary Position Function/Summary:
Provide support services for the evolving core functions of Illinois Abroad and Global Exchange and working in close collaboration with the University community to improve study abroad as an integral part of a transformative education.
Statement of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate a varied portfolio of study abroad programs around the world and provide general advising and comprehensive support to students with the study abroad process.
  • Serve in an embedded role to academic units who have limited study abroad infrastructure to provide specialized support and advance study abroad opportunities specific to the needs of the unit.
  • Coordinate the initial general admissions process and connect students with the appropriate study abroad resources and personnel to help them identify the best program match.
  • Contribute to the expansion and overall coordination of campus-wide study abroad outreach, pre-departure programming, and diversity initiatives to increase awareness, access, and the utilization of study abroad opportunities and support services.
  • Advise faculty and staff on program proposal and development procedures and best practices; provide support with designing programs that are academically integrated, foster cross cultural learning, and are in accordance with the Forum on Education Abroad Standards of Good Practice.
  • Participate in committees, special projects, and in the development of campus-wide projects and programming to share best practices in study abroad.
  • Respond appropriately to student program participant needs and collaborate with the Office for International Safety and Security on incidents and emergencies; travel within the US and internationally to represent the University as needed.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • One year of administrative experience working in an international office or organization, or working, living, or studying in 2 or more countries.

Preferred: (Successful candidates will have):
  • Master's degree
  • Advising experience at a large higher education institution supporting the student experience.
  • Certification from the Forum on Education Abroad

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
  • Organizational skills and the ability to be flexible and efficient managing complex projects and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), including the ability to deliver effective presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate in the planning and implementation of large-scale events, orientation programs, cross-cultural activities, and student support services with the University community.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills; proactively identify solutions where guidelines may not exist.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, and partners in the U.S. and abroad.
  • Authentic interest in being a member of a team, sharing responsibility, and contributing positively to office culture.
  • Knowledge of and experience with advising, referring, and advocating for students.
  • Demonstrated interest in student learning and development in cross-cultural settings.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION:
This is a full-time 100% Civil Service Program Coordinator position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. Salary will be determined based on the candidate's education, experience, skills, and internal equity considerations. The minimum salary for this position is $51,350.00.
Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
Civil Service employees may earn up to 28 days of vacation leave per year, depending on length of service. The University offers 11 annual paid holidays , 12 cumulative sick leave days, plus an additional 13 non-cumulative sick leave days, if needed, each year. Health insurance is available to employees (with the option to purchase coverage for spouse and dependents), required participation in State Universities Retirement System (SURS), with several options for participation in additional retirement plans.
