Organizational Unit Overview
It is the mission of the Department of Pediatrics, East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine, to provide exemplary medical education/training of physicians in pediatric medicine at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, it is the mission of the department to provide model comprehensive primary and consultative subspecialty care to children of eastern North Carolina, to advance scientific knowledge through basic and clinical research, and to provide continuing medical education opportunities for physicians in the region.
Job Duties
A Registered Nurse is needed to work in the Pediatric Outpatient clinical areas. The selected candidate will interact with residents, medical students, nursing students, and other learners on a daily basis to teach procedures and concepts that relate to nursing practice. The selected candidate will assist in the outpatient management of patients at the Hematology/Oncology Clinic which includes providing direct patient care, coordination and management of efficient clinic operations, and to serve as a resource person for the education of learners. The individual in this position will perform a variety of tasks with some detail, requiring general understanding and skill in the application of work procedures. The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure that patient needs are met efficiently and effectively. Independent nursing care will be expected, including administering immunizations, IV therapy, and accessing mediports and Hickman catheters. Responsibilities of this position include nursing support, technical assistance, assisting physicians with some procedures, and the activities of maintaining a safe environment, care standards, and inventory control. The selected candidate will also serve as an educator for the patient population and their families regarding preventative health measures, disease, and disease management.
Currently, hours of clinic operation are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a flexible scheduled late day to accommodate patient care, Monday through Friday.

The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center, which serves as its teaching hospital, as well as the flagship hospital for ECU Health.

Minimum Education/Experience
Graduation from state-accredited school of professional nursing and licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Prefer one year of pediatric and/or adult nursing experience
BLS certification
Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills
License or Certification required by the Department
