Organizational Unit Overview
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is a clinical science department within the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. As the regions only academic OBGYN department, the primary functions of the department are to teach obstetrics and gynecology to medical students, resident physicians, post graduate students, nurses and other allied health professional, provide evidence-based and comprehensive clinical service to the region, and conduct clinical research featuring our rural mission.
Job Duties
The primary purpose of the Staff Nurse is to provide nursing support to patients and coordination of patient care at the Brody Outpatient Clinic in the Department of Ob/Gyn. The nursing support and coordination of care includes patient education, triaging of patients and assisting providers with procedures and patient testing. This professional nursing care is rendered to patients in compliance with the medical care directed by physicians.

The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center, which serves as it’s teaching hospital, as well as the flagship hospital for ECU Health.
Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) which offers matching employer contributions and employee control of investment choices, along with eligibility to participate in various Voluntary Supplemental Retirement Plans (401k, 403b. 457). This position is not eligible to participate in the NC Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS). Additionally, this position offers multiple voluntary options for Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance as well as various supplemental plans including Critical Illness, Flexible Spending Accounts, Cancer, and Disability.
Minimum Education/Experience
Graduation from state-accredited school of professional nursing and licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
