Echocardiography Technologist

We are seeking a Echocardiography Technologist  who will work on various clinical research studies as a sonographer and analyst. This person will coordinate and participate in a variety of complex activities involved in the collection, compilation, documentation, and analysis of research data, specifically echocardiographic image acquisition and analysis. This position will report directly to the Laboratory Director and Primary Investigator, Dr. Monica Mukherjee.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform conventional and speckle-derived strain echocardiographic analysis with standardized input of data elements into de-identified databases.
  • Perform standard cardiac MR and CT analysis.
  • Assist in the de-identification, storage, compression, and transfer of digital images for post-processing.
  • Assist in the coding, evaluation, and interpretation of collected data and prepare appropriate documentation. Assist in the evaluation and interpretation of collected data in conjunction with the principal investigator and other staff as appropriate.
  • For prospective study patient recruitment, perform echocardiograms while ensuring compliance with protocol guidelines and requirements of regulatory agencies.
  • Identify problems and/or inconsistencies related to the echocardiograms, which will include documentation and reporting of adverse events.
  • Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, image recording and storage devices, and must ensure proper functioning of recording devices.
  • Maintain a safe, sanitary, and orderly work area.
  • Ensure participants’ privacy, safety, and comfort.
  • Prepare oral presentations and/or written reports and analyses setting forth progress, trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
  • Confer with Principal Investigator to assist in developing plans for research projects and to discuss the interpretation of results.
  • Collaborate on the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
  • Assist in the coordination and the development of study forms, questionnaires, and the application of research techniques.
  • Assist in writing procedure manuals for data collection and coding; Review journals, abstracts, and scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments and to obtain information regarding previous studies to aid in the planning of new studies.
  • Assure compliance of general and study specific regulatory related processes, and applicable regulations for the reporting of events to regulatory agencies.
  • Assist in the development of appropriate regulatory reports and associated documentation in accordance with standard of practice and study specific processes.
  • Work closely with sponsor and study personnel on relevant issues; Participate in regulatory educational events.
  • Provide guidance to lower level personnel involved in planning, implementation, and evaluation of research studies.
  • Assist in training new personnel.
  • Travel to sites within the US for training sessions.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of advanced echocardiography imaging techniques.
  • Familiarity with ultrasound equipment both in terms of hardware used in the acquisition of clinical data and particularly in special procedures used for research.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited cardiac ultrasound program, associate degree in Ultrasound Technology, or equivalent.
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) credentialed as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or registry eligible.
  • BLS CPR certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least three years of echo experience.
  • Vascular ultrasound experience preferred.

Starting Salary Range: Min $25.75 - Max $45.00 HRLY ($55,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
