Job Description Summary
POSITION AVAILABILITY: The Department of Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) in the College of Human Sciences at Auburn University invites applications for a nine-month, non-tenure track Early Learning Center Instructor in the Auburn University Early Learning Center beginning August 2024.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include:
  • Plan and implement a curriculum for a group of preschool children consistent with developmentally appropriate early childhood education practice and in accordance with National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation standards.
  • Mentor and facilitate the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of children through safe and structured environments.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate a daily program which includes designing classroom arrangement for optimal learning and developing/planning materials and activities that facilitate active learning for the children.
  • Supervise the daily activities of preschool children (Infancy, Toddler, or Preschool aged-children) and graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Communicate with and serve as a resource for parents on a daily basis, keeping them informed of daily progress of their child.
  • Facilitate the Human Development and Family Science research program to include distributing and collecting surveys and assisting with settling people in the observation booth for the research team.
  • Participate in modeling best classroom practices for undergraduate students completing course requirements or internships.
  • Collaborate with community resource individuals such as therapists, specialists, and psychologists as needed. Administer medications per doctor’s prescribing instructions.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department includes 32 faculty members (17 full-time, tenure-track and 15 non-tenure track focused on teaching, research or outreach work), 250 undergraduates, and 40 graduate students and offers undergraduate, masters, and doctoral degrees. It also administers Auburn University Marriage and Family Therapy Center which also houses the MS, Marriage and Family Therapy program; the Auburn University Early Learning Center; the Harris Early Learning Center in Birmingham, AL; and the Family Child Care Partnerships program.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or Early Childhood Special Education with a strong developmental emphasis at the time employment begins and prior experience working with young children (2 years). Candidates should also have a working knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice and play-based, child-led learning.
2 years of experience in an NAEYC accredited setting, as well as applicants who have hospital, trauma, or play therapy experience.
The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements to work in the US by the date of appointment to begin and must be eligible to continue to work legally for the duration of the appointment. Selected candidate must be capable of communicating effectively in English.
