As a member of the Division of Undergraduate Education, the Educational Partnership Center (EPC) provides an array of school-centered and student-centered activities for students, parents, faculty, and community members across the Monterey Bay and Silicon Valley/San Jose regions to support students on the college-going pathway. The EPC coordinates new and longstanding student academic preparation efforts of the University of California, Santa Cruz with the goal of increasing access and opportunity to postsecondary education for students across our service area.

The EPC provides support to faculty, staff, and outreach groups to work collaboratively with schools, community colleges, and universities to promote educational pathways to success for all students. Programs in the EPC include:

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the EAOP Program Director, the Assistant Director will manage the implementation of EAOP in partner schools. The incumbent is the primary contact and team leader of EAOP/Access direct services in the Pajaro Valley Region, supervising two to seven direct service staff, and indirectly supervising support staff and several undergraduate interns. The Assistant Director will plan and lead efforts to increase the number of educationally disadvantaged and/or low-income students who attain eligibility and competitiveness for admission to colleges and universities and provide educational services designed to motivate middle and high school students to prepare academically for higher education. The incumbent will serve as EPC designate in Pajaro Valley region and support program development, assessment, and evaluation, and will supervise, train, and develop outreach staff and support staff to assure accomplishments of EPC and program specific goals and objectives.

EAOP is one of the University of California's largest and most successful Student Academic Preparation and Educational Partnership (SAPEP) programs, currently serving more than 40,000 students at more than 200 K-12 public schools throughout California each year. EAOP offers academic advising, career and college exploration, tutoring and mentoring, and financial aid and college application support to ensure students are prepared to enroll and succeed in higher education. EOAP serves Watsonville and Pajaro Valley High Schools. The Access program provides similar support to Aptos High School and all 6 of the PVUSD middle/junior high schools, engaging students earlier in their academic careers to ensure they stay on track for a-g completion and graduation. The EAOP/Access Assistant Director will lead programming and team support for the PVUSD region, ensuring all schools are on track to meet grant obligations, funds are spent wisely, and staff have the support they need to be successful in working with students. 
 

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

Budgeted Salary: $80,000 - $89,000/annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

JOB DUTIES

40% - Oversight of PVUSD region of the EAOP/Access program

  • Plan and oversee day-to-day operations; evaluate outcomes, and ensure goals and objectives are met.
  • Participate in the development and monitoring of policies and procedures for the program. Review new information and developments in K-12 and higher education policies and issues, and analyzes their impact on program strategies.
  • Make recommendations based upon this analysis. Develop short and long term strategy, evaluate outcomes, and ensure goals and objectives are met.
  • Be part of strategic leadership in shaping the direction of EAOP/Access. Help to lead meetings, including regular analysis of budgets and data trackers for all schools and share out on these topics at team meetings.

25% - Operations and administration of PVUSD EAOP/Access program

  • Act as direct supervisor for Pajaro Valley Unified School District Lead College Facilitators, working closely with Lead College Facilitator and College Facilitator and Family Involvement
  • Coordinator's to implement program services. Lead all operations and administrative tasks such as PR review, hiring, and performance management for PVUSD EAOP/Access team
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise professional, student, and / or temporary staff.
  • Establish performance standards, monitor performance, and conduct appraisals.
  • Coach, provide direction, and design professional development plans. Design and implement training for professional, temporary, and part-time staff. Collaborate with EAOP/Access
  • Director in providing professional development opportunities for all regions.Provide input on salary recommendations and corrective actions.

15% - Program management at PVUSD

  • Responsible for meeting program deliverables. This includes meeting regularly with staff to review programs’ and staff’s activities and progress towards achieving goals and outcomes.
  • Produce program reports and evaluations. Oversees the collection, analysis, and evaluation of student and program data to document progress toward established goals and objectives.
  • Manage large scale EAOP data analysis to assess program effectiveness and develop new interventions to reduce barriers to college.

10% - EAOP/Access, EPC, and USC community partnerships regionally and state-wide

  • Represent EAOP and UCSC at Pajaro Valley partner events. Serve on department, organization, and external committees, workgroups, and coordinating bodies. Develop, strengthen, and maintain partnerships / networks with K-12, higher education institutions, and community organizations.
  • Serves as consultant / expert / resource to K-14 institutions and community organizations regarding college access and college-going culture.
  • Leads special projects that require close partnership with other EPC programs, community, and campus partners, such as Signing Day, Senior Odyssey or shared overnight field trips.
  • Work closely with EAOP Special Project Coordinator to implement associated initiatives.

10% - Resource acquisition and management

  • Create and manage all PVUSD budgets, including breakdown of school budgets, management of shared activities/resources, vendor contracts, and PSA generation and district updates.
  • Assist with fundraising and development planning including managing PSA process with PVUSD
  • Monitor program components and activity budgets, ensuring they are in alignment with university regulations as well as with program grant deliverables.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience working with educational equity programs serving a diverse student population.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of K-14 education (including knowledge of college entrance and high school graduation requirements), policies, and educational equity issues.
  • Extensive supervisory experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including negotiation, leadership, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
  • Strong verbal communication skills including presentation skills.
  • Advanced organizational and project management skills with ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Extensive knowledge of higher education institutions, admissions and financial aid requirements, and matriculation processes.
  • Knowledge of state and national education policies, current education theories, and successful educational equity programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of youth and adolescent development theory, including issues facing low income, first generation, and urban youth. Demonstrated cultural competency with respect to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a variety of settings and to maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Advanced writing skills with demonstrated experience producing complex reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with diverse individuals and institutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret college admissions and financial aid policies and procedures to K-14 students, parents, and school representatives.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and direct K-14 academic preparation professionals in the administration / management of summer residential programs.
     

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with large data set analysis. Expert in Excel, R, SPSS, or similar database management tools.
  • Experience with EOAP or other student achievement grant management.
  • Experience with large data set analysis (TES data review for information gathering intervention plans).

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
  • Ability to travel to multiple work locations on and off campus.
  • Ability to travel within a defined regional or service area.
  • Ability to travel nationally.
