Intramural Sports Intern

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

Position Tenure: Mid July – End of April; start date flexible with applicant. Average Weekly Hours: 29.9 hours per week

Position Description:

The Intramural Sports Intern is a part-time position under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Intramural Sports. The Intern assists with league and tournament management, training intramural sport staff, nightly supervision of programming and staff, equipment management, and supports with special events. This position and responsibilities will adapt based on the individual’s skills, experience, and professional interests.

This will be done through education as well as the identification and removal of barriers for staff, faculty, and/or participants.

Standard Responsibilities:

• Oversee and maintain assigned leagues, tournaments, and/or special events.

• Lead and/or assist with assigned sport officials training.

• Inventory equipment, regularly check storage cleanliness, and move equipment to competition sites.

• Collect monthly Intramural Sport participant numbers and other assessment related projects.

• Shadow staff and participant disciplinary & accountability meetings.

• Maintain the Intramural Sport email and communicate with participants regularly.

• Audit sport rules and participant/staff manuals.

• Assist with departmental goals and initiatives related to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.

• Evening and weekend work will be expected on a semi-regular basis.

• Other duties as assigned.

Possible Responsibilities:

• Assist with NIRSA specific tasks or hosting special events.

• Assist with departmental goals and initiatives surrounding DEIB, Risk Management, Conflict Resolution, etc.

• Attend and assist with Duke Recreation & Physical Education special events

Required Qualifications:

• Experience or interest in sports officiating.

• Experience with and an understanding of sport event management and staff supervision.

• Ability to manage time and correspond with others in a timely manner.

• Motivated communicator

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

• Experience working in a campus recreation setting.

• Experience with IMLeagues, Whentowork, Fusion, and/or Microsoft Teams.

• Officiating experience and evaluation experience.

• Certified in first aid, CPR, and AED.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires the ability to provide recreational assistance generally equivalent to a partial high school education.

Experience

None required. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
