Position Summary
The Donor Relations Manager is a supervisory role and will report to the Director of Development and Donor Relations and will serve as an integral member of the Office of Advancement team. The donor relations team provides fundraising, donor, and alumni operational services to all members of the advancement team. To address the sophisticated needs of our advancement operation, we must expand the breadth of our donor relations and stewardship activities to ensure every donor to Carolina Law receives an equal level of stewardship dependent upon the donor level. The Donor Relations Manager is responsible for working with the law school advancement team to create and implement comprehensive donor relations and stewardship programs that appropriately and consistently promote interaction with and recognition of donors at all levels. This will encompass annual fundholder stewardship, individual donor stewardship, oversight of stewardship programs, and the addition of creative ways to highlight and feature a broad spectrum of Carolina Law donors in our communication efforts. The Donor Relations Manager will partner with the Director of Advancement Communications to ensure all communications are unified in message and support the law school’s efforts to educate, cultivate, and recognize donors. The Donor Relations Manager will work closely with the Director of Development and Donor Relations and the Associate Dean for Advancement to build a culture of high achievement and accountability across the law school donor relations and communications team, as well as strong, professional relationships with the University Development Office and campus partners throughout the University.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The Donor Relations Manager will be a polished advancement professional who knows and understands the nature and purpose of public higher education. Ability to lead and manage teams with individual expectations, deliverables, and accountability as well as inspire team collaboration.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple advancement activities simultaneously and coordinate development strategies in collaboration with law school and university partners.
Ability to work collaboratively with leadership to plan and implement a donor relations plan.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
High level of creativity, initiative, and motivation. Team oriented and willingness to set a leadership example for all members of the advancement team.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Leading candidates will have: A minimum of five or more years of experience with demonstrated successful experience and effectiveness in donor relations, communications, project management, donor identification and solicitation, preferably in a higher education setting with law school experience.
