Director, Student Conduct and Community Standards

East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country’s largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun. 
 
As the Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards you will need to think creatively and be comfortable overseeing the overall management and administration of the University’s community standards, the student conduct process, and related procedures. You will be an active member of the Campus Life & Inclusive Excellence team and will work closely with the Dean of Student Life. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your interpersonal and procedural analysis experience while ensuring compliance with due process policies in all aspects of the conduct process.  The Director will supervise a Coordinator for Student Conduct and an Administrative Assistant.  To be successful in this role, you must possess strong working knowledge of student conduct, title IX, case law, and student development. Along with serving as a direct liaison to students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders on student conduct matters. While also handling all cases with compassion and understanding,  

Your normal hours will be Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. You may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards.  When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed - all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming. 


What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)

  • Supervises staff and hearing officers in the overall development, implementation, and assessment of prompt and equitable student conduct processes, including administration of conduct software.
  • Serve as the chief conduct officer for both academic and non-academic code of conduct cases. Maintain and model the highest ethical standards, including adherence to FERPA and appropriate retention and release of student disciplinary records.
  • Work collaboratively with Title IX Coordinator for cases that require a Formal Hearing as outlined in the Sexual Misconduct (Title IX) Policy.
  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive educational program which engages students and the University community regarding personal, social and academic behavioral expectations, student rights and responsibilities, and the conduct process. Conduct workshops and training sessions for residential life, orientation, Warrior Induction, and other departments as requested.
  • Provide training for staff and hearing officers regarding implicit bias, conflict resolution, and restorative justice principles and practice, for incorporation into all aspects of the conduct process.
  • Lead regular reviews of the Student Code of Conduct to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, as well as the state system and University policy.
  • Collaborate with university police regarding Clery Act and Hazing compliance and reporting, and initiatives that promote student safety and well-being.
  • Maintain collaborative working relationships with campus partners to include university police, Title IX Coordinator, PASSHE legal counsel, local officials, and residential life staff members.
  • Serve as a member of the Incident Review Team, Behavioral Intervention Team, and other University committees as assigned. Participate in ongoing professional development through the state system and national organizations.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive assessment plan. Prepare routine reports, analyze case data and trends, and distribute to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Manage departmental budget and student records in accordance with university policies.
  • Coordinate special initiatives and projects as needed.
  • Performs related work as required.

 What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)

  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or another related field required.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in student conduct, investigations, conflict resolution, mediation, and/or related processes required. Experience working with diverse populations preferred.
  • Knowledge of Title IX, Hazing, and compliance areas applicable to Higher Education required.
  • Experience supervising professional and support staff required.
  • Knowledge of Student Conduct software products preferred.
  • Training in Restorative Justice practices in Higher Education preferred.
  • Ability to connect with students in a compassionate and empathetic manner when conducting investigations.
  • Ability to remain organized and highly detailed with confidential information.
  • Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
  • Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
