Department Summary
DSA- The Division of Student Affairs (DSA) exists to support and further the mission of the University by developing, delivering, and advocating for services and programs that unite and support students’ academic and life pursuits. DSA is one of the largest divisions at the University of North Texas and includes Housing and Residence Life, Recreational Sports, Career Center, Office of the Dean of Students, Student Health & Wellness, Counseling & Testing, Student Activities, The Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life, Auxiliary Services, Dining, Center for Leadership & Service, Sustainability, Center for Leadership & Service, Substance Abuse Resource Center, Veteran Services, TRIO, and more.
Position Overview
This position is responsible for directing the strategic and operational activities in the Center for Belonging and Engagement, including programs and services originating through the First-Generation Success Center, Student Affairs area of Student Veteran Services, and Off-Campus Student Services. Responsibilities include formulation and approval of departmental goals, staff supervision, budget development and allocation, reporting and assessment, and contracts and compliance.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of related experience

  • Knowledge of student affairs mission and ability to help position division to effectively support student success
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in a related field and seven years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Job Duties


o
Directs the strategic and operational activities that support special populations of students with lower retention rates compared to their peers and fosters sense of belonging for them, including formulation and approval of department goals, staff supervision, budget development and allocation, and develops plans to expand programming to compliment university retention plan.
o
Works collaboratively with the Division of Student Affairs Director of Assessment and Data, Analytics, Institution Research (DAIR) to review retention numbers annually and determine student population priorities.
o
Students deemed to be a population at risk can stay an area of focus for up to 3 years to determine program and service effectiveness, but new student populations can be added each year.
o
Populations are determined by data tracked and reported by UNT data systems.
o
Stays abreast of co-curricular high impact practices, at UNT and nationally, to ensure relevant programs and services are offered.
o
Effectively recruits, hires, trains, and supervises 5 full-time employees and provides indirect supervision to an additional 6 full-time staff members.
o
Establishes and manages departmental strategic and assessment plan, including the development of a departmental logic model, and outcomes related to institutional effectiveness.
o
Attends, represents, and actively participates at conferences and professional meetings to enhance programs and services, but also share the work of the department, when appropriate.
o
Develops and sustains strategic partnerships with Student Affairs and other university departments and Divisions.
o
Provides budget oversight to expenditures exceeding $1M.
o
Effectively communicate to all constituents.
