This position is an MPP II in the California State University Management Personnel Plan (MPP), reporting to the directly to the dean of the College of Ethnic Studies under the general supervision of the AA CARES Executive Director.

At-Will. The position will end on or before  June 1, 2025. Permanent status cannot be earned in this grant-funded position. This Temporary appointment can be concluded prior to the stated temporary appointment end date, normally with a two-week notice period. Continuation of this temporary appointment is contingent upon grant funding

Anticipated Hiring Range

$9,167.00 - $10,000.00 Per Month ($110,004.00 - $120,000.00 Annually)

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Position Summary

The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the Youth Education and Equity Program, as well as provides strategic program leadership and organizational unit planning activities and the analysis, development, and evaluation of highly complex programs with broad impact. As part of the AA CARES leadership team, the Director of Youth Education and AA CARES Equity Initiatives is a senior-level strategy and operations manager. This position reports directly to the dean of the College of Ethnic Studies under the general supervision of the AA CARES Executive Director. 

Position Information

General Duties

  • Lead the Youth Education and Equity Program. 
  • Assess, formulate, and evaluate the impact of recommended or implemented policies and objectives from a strategic and operational perspective. 
  • Influence over key objectives and longer-term goals of programs with high visibility or broad impact within and outside the organization, in accordance with the mission, objectives, and policies. 
  • Apply innovative thinking and performance measurements to analyze and support strategic decision-making and program effectiveness. 
  • Oversee programs and directly manage staff, subcontractors and volunteers. 
  • Prudently direct resources and manage all financials within budget guidelines and according to current laws and regulations. 
  • Develop and implement quality programs with input from staff and partners to articulate project goals, scope of work and timelines. 
  • Manage and monitor tracking of progress on project's deliverables, ensuring goals are met, monitoring compliance, and submitting reports and evaluations to funders. 
  • Work requires participation in planning and development activities and, as required, independent determination of methods to meet programmatic goals. 
  • Review work against overall goals and objectives, with full accountability for results. 
  • Collaborate with the Education Equity Program Lead and Youth Program Lead to develop and execute strategies that align with the Education Equity and Youth Program Projects' objectives. 
  • Collaborate with the Education Lead in the creation of creative content (play, workshops, curriculum, events) aligned with the Youth Education and Equity Projects' objectives. 
  • Lead and manage the Youth Education and Equity Projects' teams, provide project management leadership and ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget and meet quality standards.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of prior experience as a Director, or in a management-related position at either an educational institution, nonprofit, foundation, government, or industry.

• Masters or Doctorate in Asian American Studies, Ethnic Studies, Education or related field.

• Strong business acumen and a history of providing visionary leadership at the executive level.

• Proven experience executing organizational growth and leading a successful nonprofit and/or related entity of a similar or larger size.

• Familiarity with diverse business functions such as communications, public relations, human resources, etc.

• Experience and success innovating, recruiting, developing, retaining, and mentoring high performance, mission-driven, and results-oriented teams.

• Excellent written, oral, and public speaking skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with strong interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills. 

Preferred Qualifications

•Proven success in establishing and maintaining relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies, and volunteers.

•Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

• Ability to make independent decisions and exercise sound judgment.

• Ability to understand problems from a broad, interactive perspective and discern applicable underlying principles to conceive of and develop strategic solutions.

• Ability to work with representatives from public and private entities and handle potentially sensitive situations.
