Position Summary

The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for Director of University Budgeting.

The Director of University Budgeting, reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Finance and Administration and Assistant Treasurer, leads the development and implementation of all budgets for the University, monitors budgets to ensure the availability of resources to meet operational requirements and strategic goals, and provides information to senior management to aid strategic planning. 

Duties/Responsibilities 

  • Develop and monitor operating, auxiliary, capital, project, and grant budgets. 
  • Prepare and present budget reports and analyses to the USI Board of Trustees and senior management;
  • Develop and maintain budget scorecard and evaluate key performance indicators for the University; 
  • Project University financial position and recommend budget strategies
  • Furnish reports and required information to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, the State Budget Agency, the Indiana General Assembly, and other external stakeholders; 
  • Direct the University-wide budget development process; 
  • Administer Banner Finance budget development model; and
  • Supervise budget analysts and related staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with at least five years of progressive work experience forecasting and compiling large-scale budgets.
  • Five years of supervisory experience.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Superior financial modeling and analytic skills with ability to define, analyze, and formulate solutions to complex budgeting needs.
  • Ability to organize and present budget data to diverse audiences.
  • Superior interpersonal, written, and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing programs.
  • Knowledge of fund accounting principles and practices.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and react appropriately to sensitive information.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner.
