Description of Work Unit

The Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering (WSCOE) at Colorado State University consists of about 3,400 students enrolled in BS, MS, and PhD programs, 145 tenure-track and non-tenure-track faculty, and over 400 support staff and research scientists. The goal of WSCOE is to serve society by educating students, solving problems of global importance, and contributing to national and international economic development. The WSCOE’s goals are high, and the WSCOE vision is clear; i.e., to create a better world for future generations.
The Engineering Success Center (ESC) is housed within the Dean’s Office in the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering (WSCOE) at Colorado State University. The ESC provides support and resources to current and prospective engineering students. This unit is responsible for undergraduate recruiting and outreach efforts, retention initiatives, academic advising for undeclared engineering students, diversity and access initiatives, career support services, scholarship administration, the Engineering Residential Learning Community, and the coordination of College of Engineering events (e.g., Commencement). The ESC is the first point of contact for many of our incoming students and their families. The day-to-day operations of the ESC are led by the Director of the Engineering Success Center. The Center is composed of employees specializing in the different functions performed by the Center who work collaboratively to support student success.
The Scott Scholars Program resides in the Engineering Success Center (ESC) which is managed by the Director of the Engineering Success Center. The Director of the Scott Scholars Program collaborates closely with members of the ESC team to recruit and support the Scott Scholars.
Position Summary
Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering (WSCOE) invites applications for the position of Director of the Scott Scholars Program. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Engineering, the Director leads the integration and administration of co-curricular activities that enrich the undergraduate education of engineering students selected as Scott Scholars. The WSCOE seeks an exceptional leader with experience cultivating and leveraging partnerships with corporate, governmental, academic, and nonprofit partners. They will engage faculty, staff, and external constituencies effectively in a collegial and collaborative manner.
The Director will provide the vision and leadership to create and implement a strategic plan to optimize the academic quality, leadership in education, research, scholarship, and engagement of the Program. They will interact with college leadership to promote the needs of the Program with representatives from other academic colleges who engage with the Scott Scholars Program.
The Director must be a strategic thinker, adept at building partnerships within a diverse community, knowledgeable in higher education and industry issues, collaborative in developing team-focused, data-driven approaches to problem solving, and possess strong people skills. Working in partnership with the senior administration, the successful candidate will be expected to embrace and contribute to Colorado State University’s and the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering’s mission and core values. The Director will assist in efforts to recruit and retain high performing students in Colorado poised to excel academically, grow in maturity, acquire a deep sense of personal and professional responsibility, and provide future leadership in creating new businesses, products, and services that contribute to the vitality of the Fort Collins community, Colorado, and the world at large. A twelve-month appointment, the Director leads two additional staff members.
This is an Administrative Professional, 12-month regular full-time, 40 hour/week position. The Director role requires in-person responsibilities during regular work hours as well as occasional evening events. After the first 90 days, a flexible work schedule may be an option.
Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Five years of industry experience in technical, program management, or equivalent roles.
  • Three years of experience in higher education, including engagement and collaboration with a diversity of stakeholders (e.g., students, staff, faculty, and administration).
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Evidence of creating a supportive and inclusive environment for staff, including support for professional development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues across complex organizations.
  • Administrative personnel and budgetary experience.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM-related field from an accredited institution.
  • Graduate degree in a STEM-related field or commensurate experience in industry and/or government.
  • Experience working with high-achieving college students.

  • Manage the Scott Scholars Program at CSU. This includes the primary supervision of two full-time staff members and the comprehensive support services for all students associated with the Program.
  • Develop and implement co-curricular and extracurricular programming to help Scott Scholars achieve academic success, become career professionals, responsible citizens, and life-long learners.
  • Promote student life and co-curricular activities as essential elements in learning for Scott Scholars and all College of Engineering students.
  • Collaborate closely with College of Engineering Success Center, College academic departments, and units across CSU to enhance transformative educational experiences of Scott Scholars and all College of Engineering students.
  • In partnership with the Dean and College Advancement Team, engage with Scott Foundation, including preparing and presenting regular reports on student and program performance.

  • Support programming to attract prospective Scott Scholars. Interact with prospective students to help them understand the Scott Scholars program.
  • Develop and manage Scott Scholars alumni network that maintains an engaged connection to all graduates.
  • Evaluate regularly the quality of the entire Scott Scholars Program through documented analysis of student outcome and other assessments that feeds into a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Manage the Scott Scholars Program budget. Ensure that all University and Scott Foundation budget policies and procedures are followed.
